Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro Stepdown & EMU position requiring strong neuro experience, NIHSS certification, and Epic proficiency.
Details
- Work in an acute care hospital setting on a 31-bed Neuro Stepdown & Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU)
- Patient population includes higher acuity neuroscience patients with diagnoses such as strokes, seizures, craniotomies, and EVDs
- Stepdown nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3; EMU (floor) ratio is 1:5-6
- Nurse aides are available on the unit at a ratio of 1:8-9
- Telemetry is present on the unit; RNs are not required to read strips
- RT is available 24/7; floor vents are managed by RT and physicians, so vent experience is not required
- Common drips include Amiodarone, Cardizem, Nitro, Dopamine, Nipride, Ketamine, Lasix, Bumex, and Insulin — titration is performed per physician orders or established protocols
- Charge Nurse coverage is available 24/7
- Schedule is nights, 3x12-hour shifts (7p–7:30a)
- Every other weekend or 2 weekend shifts per schedule is required
- Holiday rotation participation is expected
- Floating may be required to units 7E, 7W, 7NE, or 10W
- Charting is done in Epic (experience required)
Requirements
- Active WV or Compact RN license required
- Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required; ACLS preferred
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Strong neuro experience required, including a history of caring for stroke patients and implementing NIH stroke scale assessments
- Epic EMR experience required
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
- Driver's license must reflect an address more than 50 miles from the facility
- 2 supervisor/peer references required for consideration
- Copies of certifications and driver's license required for consideration
- Skills checklist completed within the past year required for consideration
- Any license discrepancies or hits must be disclosed
Additional Information
- Royal blue scrubs are required
- Unit orientation consists of 2 shifts on the unit
- COVID vaccination is required; medical or religious exemptions may be requested via an exemption form process
- Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before returning
- Travelers are not permitted to work within the WVU system for longer than one cumulative year; once the one-year mark is reached, a 2-year break is required before reapplying
