Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced travel RN for a Critical Care Step-Down (SCU) position at a Level 1 Trauma, Magnet-status acute care hospital in Michigan, requiring at least 2 years of experience and prior telemetry skills.

• Step-Down / Special Care Unit (SCU) in a 632-bed, short-term acute care hospital
• Level 1 Trauma facility
• Patient population includes critical care step-down patients; on days without SCU patients, nurses are expected to care for general med/surg telemetry patients
• Competency with drips, telemetry monitoring, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen therapy required
• Responsible for overseeing 10 telemetry monitors
• Vented patients are not routinely kept on the unit (exception: temporarily vented post-op patients); patients on pressors are not maintained but may be initiated
• Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
• 2 weekends per month required (Fri/Sat nights); typically every third weekend in practice
• No call and no floating requirements
• EMR: Epic (experience preferred; training provided during orientation); also uses Pyxis and SBAR
• Free parking available with badge access to the parking garage

Requirements

• Active Michigan RN license required (compact licenses not accepted; pending licenses not accepted)
• Current AHA certifications required: BLS and ACLS (AHA-issued preferred)
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Prior telemetry experience required
• Epic EMR experience preferred
• Prior experience in a Level 1 Trauma setting required
• Proficiency with drips, telemetry, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen therapy required
• Travel nursing experience required; first-time travelers are not eligible for this position
• 2 professional supervisory references from within the past 2 years required for consideration
• Copies of current certifications and State Board of Nursing / NURSYS license verification required for consideration

• Pre-start modules are required and vary by specialty
• Local candidates are accepted at the same rate as travelers — no radius restriction applies
• Former core staff members must wait 12 months before returning and must be verified through HR prior to consideration
• Maximum of 5 days RTO per assignment; all RTO requests must be submitted at the time of profile
• RTO will not be approved for Memorial Day Weekend (5/26–5/29) or Independence Day Week (6/30–7/6)
