Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced travel RN for a high-acuity Emergency Department position requiring prior travel nursing experience, Epic proficiency, and a GA or compact RN license.

Details

  • Large, high-acuity Emergency Department setting treating adolescents through geriatrics in a combined adult/pediatric, non-trauma environment
  • STEMI and Stroke Certified facility
  • Patient ratio of 1:4 in a 59-bed ER averaging 165–175 patients per day
  • Evening shift, 3x12-hour shifts (13:00–01:00)
  • Every other weekend required
  • Charting via Epic (required) and Pyxis for medication dispensing
  • Floating is rare but may occur within the facility and within scope of practice

Requirements

  • Active GA or compact RN license required
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and PALS
  • Preferred certifications: SANE, TNCC
  • Minimum 2 years of ER nursing experience required
  • Epic experience is required — candidates without Epic experience will not be considered
  • Prior travel nursing experience is required — candidates without travel experience will not be considered; at least 2–3 completed ER travel contracts strongly preferred
  • First-time travelers are not eligible for this position
  • Core clinical skills required include: triage, IV therapy/phlebotomy, central line care, blood product administration, cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia management, 12-lead EKG/ECG, emergency medication administration, procedural sedation monitoring, CVA/stroke care, ventilator and BiPAP/CPAP management, chest tube management, and psychiatric patient management (including acute psychosis, drug overdose, suicidal patients, and managing violent behavior)
  • Preferred skills include: arterial line management, ABG interpretation, ICP monitoring, neuro-trauma/TBI, burn care, ortho trauma, splint management, and gunshot wound care

Additional Information

  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • Previous charge nurse experience is preferred
  • Teaching hospital and trauma (Level I or II) experience preferred
  • All RTO must be finalized prior to offer — no schedule changes or RTO requests are permitted after offer or once onsite
  • Maximum of 7 days RTO per contract; RTO cannot be requested during the first week of the assignment
  • RTO blackout period: Spring Break (April 4–12)
  • Holiday coverage policy: if 1 or 2 major holidays fall within the assignment period, the traveler is expected to work all of them; if 3 major holidays fall within the assignment period, the traveler is expected to work 2 (one holiday RTO request may be considered)
  • Major holidays: Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday (counts as 1), Christmas Eve/Christmas Day (counts as 1), New Year's Eve/New Year's Day (counts as 1)
  • Travelers who previously worked at or were placed with this health system as permanent, per diem, or FCSS staff must have been away from all system facilities for a full year before being eligible as a traveler
  • Travelers who previously canceled or received a facility DNR must complete one successful assignment outside of this health system before reapplying
  • Local candidates are accepted
  • No alternate shift or scheduling requests are accommodated — the posted evening shift is firm
  • All compliance documents must be submitted by the Tuesday prior to the start date; core onboarding items must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing
  • Candidates undergo clinical review before advancing to manager consideration

I couldn’t have asked for a better experience for my first travel assignment. American Traveler has made the entire process feel easy from start to finish.
