Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro ICU position at a Level I Trauma, Magnet teaching hospital, requiring strong neuro ICU background including EVD, craniotomy, and burr hole experience.
Details
- 26-week contract in a Neuro ICU at a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated teaching hospital with 500 staffed beds
- Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
- Patient population includes hemorrhagic stroke, SAH, aneurysms and vascular malformations, TBI, SCI, ischemic stroke (tPA/thrombectomy), seizure disorders, neuro infections, and planned tumor resections — with some medical and surgical overflow
- Patient ratio is 1:2 on both days and nights
- TJC Comprehensive Stroke Center-accredited unit
- Telemetry monitoring is required; candidates must be proficient in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias — a competency test will be administered
- Floating within the hospital to other ICU areas or boarders may be required as needed
- Every other weekend required
- No on-call requirements
- Block scheduling is not available
- Epic is the charting system; experience is required
- Scrubs may be any solid color; light blue scrubs are provided on the unit
Requirements
- Active WA RN license or compact license currently in hand (pending licenses not accepted)
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS; TNCC preferred
- EKG/dysrhythmia competency exam required
- Minimum 2 years of Neuro ICU RN experience required
- Level I Trauma center experience required
- EVD (external ventricular drain), craniotomy, and burr hole experience required
- Proficiency required in: arterial line management, central line care, PICC line management, ventilator management, CVVHD/CRRT, ICP monitoring, post-craniotomy and post-neurosurgical care, titration of vasoactive and cardiac drips, continuous IV sedation and paralytic management, CVA/acute stroke management
- Epic EMR experience required
- COVID vaccination and booster required — no exceptions
- 2 supervisory references required for consideration (1 may be accepted on a case-by-case basis)
- Any background history must be disclosed at time of consideration
- Prior permanent employment with UW requires 18 months of separation before returning as a traveler
Additional Information
- First-time travelers will be considered if they have prior Level I Trauma experience and a strong work history
- Teaching hospital and trauma hospital experience preferred
- Pre-start orientation modules are non-billable and estimated at 6–8 hours; an additional WA state suicide prevention training course (approx. 6 hours) may be required depending on work setting
- RTO is not available during the first 2 weeks of the contract and should be kept to a minimum throughout
- Local candidates are accepted with no radius restriction
- Parking is available onsite and offsite; an offsite shuttle option (approx. 1 mile away) operates weekdays from 5am–10pm
