Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position at a Magnet-designated Level I Trauma Center, requiring Epic proficiency and cardiac PCU experience.
Details
- General Medicine/Observation PCU setting within a large, Magnet-designated acute care hospital and Level I Trauma Center affiliated with a medical school
- Day shift, 3x12-hour shifts, 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM
- Weekend requirement of every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block
- Patient ratio of 1:4–5 (goal 4:1, typically 5:1)
- Telemetry is monitored remotely with monitors available on the unit; tele-sitting is used for additional patient care tech support
- Charting via Epic (experience required)
- Floating required within skillset
- One holiday shift required per 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active Virginia state RN license or Compact RN license required; pending licensure accepted only for candidates holding a single-state license from a non-compact state
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a Tele, PCU, DOU, IMC, or stepdown setting; experience at a 250+ bed facility strongly preferred
- Cardiac PCU experience required
- Proficiency in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and administration of cardiac drips without titration (e.g., Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, Amiodarone, Nitro, Bumex, Lasix, low-dose dopamine/dobutamine)
- Skills in IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care and management
- Competency in chest tubes, trach care, PICC line management, and medication administration
- Respiratory skills including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, CPAP, BiPAP, and non-invasive airway management
- Experience with isolation precautions and PPE
- Two professional references required for consideration
- PDF copies of driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide progressive care nursing to a general medicine and observation patient population with cardiac and telemetry needs
- Support from Rapid Response and Code teams available on unit
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply; prior travel experience preferred but not required if candidate has strong experience at a comparable facility
- Local candidates are accepted
- All time-off requests must be submitted at the time of application
