Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position in an Admission Holding unit at a Level 1 Trauma Academic Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC.
Details
- Work in an 8-bed Admission Holding unit (4A) within a large 885-bed Level 1 Trauma Academic Medical Center and designated Chest Pain and Stroke Center
- Patient population includes general medical cases with cardiac, pneumonia, UTI, chest pain, and fluid overload diagnoses
- RN-to-patient ratio of 1:4; CNA support ratio of 1:8
- Telemetry monitoring is available on the unit; RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting rhythm strips during their shift
- Common procedures and skills include PCA management, surgical drains, wound care, telemetry/cardiac rhythm interpretation, and Cardizem/Amiodarone drip administration
- EMR: Epic; IV pump: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell
- 12-hour day shifts, 0630–1900, 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- No on-call or call-back requirements
- Floating may be required to any adult unit within the traveler's scope of practice
Requirements
- Active NC RN license or Compact RN license required
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 1 year of Med/Surg Telemetry or related unit experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation and telemetry monitoring required
- Experience with PCAs, surgical drains, wound care, and vasoactive drips (Cardizem/Amiodarone) preferred; must be willing to learn if not already experienced
- Epic EMR experience
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN required for consideration
- Must have been separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year following a permanent position prior to being eligible
Additional Information
- Unit support staff includes CNAs (vital signs, blood glucose checks, hourly safety rounds, ADLs), a Receptionist/HUC, and a Charge Nurse (primarily free-floating, may occasionally carry a full assignment)
- Phlebotomy services are available for peripheral blood draws; RNs are responsible for starting their own IVs (no IV/VAT team)
- Respiratory Therapy, Hospitalist, and Intensivist coverage available 24/7
- Orientation includes facility-level NEO followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
- Travel experience is preferred; first-time travelers may be considered
- 50% holiday coverage required
- Scrubs: Royal Blue; parking is complimentary
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible — local candidates are not accepted
