Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position in an Admission Holding unit at a Level 1 Trauma Academic Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC, working 12-hour night shifts with telemetry and cardiac rhythm interpretation skills required.

• Work in the Admission Holding unit (4A) of an 885-bed Level 1 Trauma Academic Medical Center and Chest Pain/Stroke Center
• 8-bed unit with an average daily census of 8 patients
• Patient population includes general medical cases with some cardiac diagnoses, pneumonia, UTI, chest pain, and fluid overload
• RN-to-patient ratio of 1:4; CNA-to-patient ratio of 1:8
• 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend rotation required
• 50% holiday coverage required
• No on-call or call-back requirements
• Floating to any adult unit within the traveler's scope of practice may be required
• EMR: Epic (experience preferred)
• IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell
• Unit utilizes telemetry monitors; RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting rhythm strips during each shift
• Unit-specific equipment includes PCAs, trachs, and complex wound care supplies

Requirements

• Active NC RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 1 year of Med/Surg Tele or related specialty experience, with most recent experience within the last year
• Proficiency with PCA management, surgical drains, wound care, and telemetry cardiac rhythm interpretation
• Experience with Cardizem and Amiodarone drips preferred; candidates without experience must be comfortable learning
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
• At least 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

Additional Information

• Travel experience is preferred; first-time travelers are not preferred for this role
• Must have been separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year following permanent employment before being eligible
• Unit support includes CNAs (vitals, glucose checks, ADLs, hourly safety rounds), a receptionist/HUC, and a charge nurse who is primarily free-floating
• Phlebotomy is available for peripheral blood draws; RNs start their own IVs (no IV/VAT team)
• Respiratory therapy, hospitalist, and intensivist services are available 24/7
• Orientation includes facility new employee orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
• Required scrub color: Royal Blue
