Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience, Epic proficiency, and a PA or compact RN license, working nights at a community hospital in Pennsylvania.
Details
- Labor & Delivery unit in a community hospital setting
- Low-risk L&D environment with facility births fewer than 100 per month
- Work settings include Antepartum, Labor & Delivery, LDRP, Level I Nursery, Mother/Baby, and Low-Risk OB
- Patient ratio of 1:4
- Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- Every other weekend (EOW) required
- On-call required
- Holiday coverage required as needed
- Floating required as needed
- Epic EMR — experience required
- Manages medications including Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate, antihypertensives, antiseizure agents, insulin drips, prostaglandins, terbutaline, and anticoagulation therapy
- Performs and assists with antepartum procedures including NST, OCT, EFM, sterile vaginal exams, and triage of OB patients
- Provides labor and delivery management including vaginal delivery assistance, C-section circulation and recovery, and hemorrhage/shock management
- Provides postpartum and couplet care, including breastfeeding/lactation support, fundus/lochia/perineum assessment, and wound care
- Performs neonatal care in the delivery room including APGAR scoring, neonatal resuscitation, and radiant warmer/thermoregulation management
- Cares for patients with conditions including pre-eclampsia/eclampsia, HELLP Syndrome, preterm labor, placenta previa/abruptio, VBAC, multiple gestation, and substance abuse
- May care for COVID-positive patients
Requirements
- Active PA RN license or compact RN license currently in hand — no license encumbrances accepted
- Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery RN experience required
- Community hospital experience required
- Travel nursing experience required
- Epic EMR experience required
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS (AHA or ARC only), NRP, and AWHONN Intermediate
- Preferred certifications: AWHONN Advanced
- Previous charge experience preferred
- Proficient in IV therapy/phlebotomy, blood administration, central line maintenance (CVC/PICC), IV starts, and infusion pump management
- Skilled in cardiac monitoring, adult and neonatal/infant arrest response, and use of rapid response/code teams
- Skilled in fetal monitoring including recognition and treatment of abnormal FHR patterns, external fetal monitoring, and IUPC placement and calibration
- Experienced with surgical procedures including cervical cerclage, D&C, and pain management modalities (epidural, IV conscious sedation, opioids, PCA)
Additional Information
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for the travel pay rate
- Manager interview required as part of the selection process
- Clinical screening will be conducted to assess fit prior to manager review
- Pre-employment modules are required and must be completed prior to start; modules generally take 5–6 hours to complete
- Where applicable, candidates must complete and pass an EKG exam within 72 hours of signing their travel contract
- Travel pairs are permitted, but matched schedules cannot be guaranteed
- RTO is limited to a maximum of 7 days per contract
- Tobacco-free and fragrance-free facility
- 2 professional supervisor references from within the past 2 years required for consideration
- Full 7-year work history with all gaps explained required for consideration
- All time off and scheduling requests must be submitted at the time of initial consideration
