Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an ER/Med-Surg Swing position at an acute care hospital in Minnesota, requiring at least 2 years of ER experience and a rotating day/night schedule.

Details

• Acute care hospital setting in Minnesota
• Combined ER and Med-Surg Swing Bed unit with 4 beds and 2 trauma bays
• Trauma Level IV facility with STEMI receiving and Stroke designation
• Average patient volume of approximately 10 patients per day in the ER
• ER holds are intermixed within the ER; no separate fast track or dedicated triage area
• Separate psych/seclusion rooms are available
• RNs are responsible for reading their own telemetry strips; Mindray monitors are used
• No respiratory therapist on staff — RNs manage ventilator and respiratory equipment
• ED physician coverage on each shift; charge nurse is present and takes a patient assignment
• Nurse aides, EMTs, and patient sitters are available on an on-call basis
• Lab staff handles phlebotomy draws
• EMR: Point Click Care (PCC)
• 12-hour shifts rotating days and nights, 7:00 AM–7:00 PM and 7:00 PM–7:00 AM
• Block scheduling will be considered
• Every other weekend (EOW) required
• Holiday coverage required when holidays fall within a regularly scheduled shift
• No on-call or standby requirement
• Floating required to Med/Surg and Swing Bed, which is on the same unit
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active MN RN license or Compact (NLC) license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses are not accepted
• Required certifications (all must be active): BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC; PALS preferred
• Minimum 2 years of ER experience required
• Previous Med-Surg experience required
• Experience managing respiratory equipment (vents, CPAP, BiPAP, high flow) independently
• Ability to independently read and interpret telemetry strips
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility (driver's license used to verify permanent address)
• Candidates may not have been directly employed full-time, part-time, or PRN by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity affiliated facility within the past year (candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered)
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
• Valid driver's license required

Additional Information

• RNs are responsible for managing respiratory equipment including ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen in the absence of RT support
• Orientation consists of one 12-hour shift covering both day and night orientations (7:00 AM–7:00 PM and 7:00 PM–7:00 AM)
• Navy blue scrubs required
• All requested time off must be submitted upfront; additional RTO will not be approved after consideration
