Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a 13-week ICU night shift position at a Level II Trauma facility in Nebraska, requiring at least 2 years of ICU experience and active ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications.

Details

  • Level II Trauma acute care hospital ICU setting with 33 beds and an average daily census of 16
  • Patient population includes trauma, cardiac, stroke, sepsis, overdose/substance abuse, post-stent, pacemaker placement, vascular, renal failure, heart failure, and respiratory distress cases
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2-3 for adult ICU patients
  • RNs are required to titrate drips, including cardiac drips, insulin, and sedation
  • RNs are required to read, interpret, and document telemetry strips; GE monitors are used with tele tech oversight
  • Respiratory equipment ranges from nasal cannula to mechanical ventilation
  • EMR: Epic
  • 12-hour night shifts (1830–0630)
  • Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday) required
  • Minimum of 2 holidays that fall within the contract period are required
  • Floating may be required to PCU or occasionally MedSurg at a 1:4 or 1:5 ratio
  • Nurse aides are available based on census; a Healthcare Support Tech is available 3 days per week (Mon–Fri, 0800–1630)
  • Self-scheduling is available for core staff; travelers are added into the schedule
  • Block scheduling is not approved unless weekends only
  • If placed on call and called back in, the RN must be able to arrive within 30 minutes

Requirements

  • Active NE state RN license or Compact (NLC) license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses are not accepted
  • Active certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS — pending certifications are not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU RN experience required
  • BSN is not required
  • Epic EMR experience preferred
  • A valid driver's license is required for consideration and will be used to verify permanent address
  • Two professional references are required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility (permanent address verified by driver's license)
  • Candidates may not be currently employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) at any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity Health

Additional Information

  • One unit-specific orientation shift is provided
  • A pass/fail open-book exam is administered on Wednesdays during orientation covering skills learned; a score of 90% or higher is required to pass — failure may result to contract termination
  • Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove them will result to contract termination
  • RTO must be requested upfront; no more than 7 days per 13-week contract will be approved, and additional RTO will not be approved after consideration
  • Candidates who were previously employed PRN through outside staffing firms at CommonSpirit facilities will be considered
