Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac Cath Lab position at a Level II Trauma Center in Montgomery, AL, requiring interventional Cath Lab experience and an active AL or compact RN license.
Details
- Works in a 4-room Cath Lab/CVR unit within a 492-bed Level II Trauma Center and Primary Stroke Center
- Required patient experience includes STEMI/NSTEMI, LHC/RHC, CHF, Angina, ACS, Afib, IABP/Impella, CTOs, staged/protected PCI, pericardiocentesis, and temp pacers
- EP, vascular, PE, and hybrid/structural cases (e.g., Watchman, TAVR, pacemakers, ablations, carotids) are performed in the lab; prior experience with these is not required
- Daily patient volume is approximately 20–25 cases
- Patients not coming from the ICU recover in the Cardiovascular Recovery (CVR) area after their procedure
- EMR is Cerner; hemodynamic monitoring via XPER (Philips); IV pumps are Plum 360; medication dispensing via Omnicell
- Shift is 12-hour days, 0630–1900, three shifts per week (36 hrs/week)
- On-call rotation includes one call night per weekday week and one late shift per week (late shift and call shift are not worked concurrently); weekday call runs from end of shift until 0630 the following morning
- Weekend on-call rotation is every 4th weekend, Friday end of shift through Monday at 0630
- 30-minute response time required for call; call rooms are available on a reservable basis
- Floating may occur to IR or Cardiovascular Recovery (CVR); prior experience in those areas is not required
- Schedule cycle is 3–6 weeks; block scheduling is not available upfront
Requirements
- Active AL RN license or compact RN license required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 1 year of interventional Cath Lab experience required (diagnostic-only Cath Lab experience is not sufficient)
- Proficiency in groin site management, radial band management (VascBand), moderate sedation, drip titration, emergency drug knowledge, defibrillator/pacer use, rhythm recognition, and anticoagulant administration
- Comfort with ventilator alarm management (ability to distinguish critical vs. non-critical alarms); hands-on vent experience is not required
- One supervisory or charge-level reference from within the past 12 months required for consideration
- DOB (day and month) required for consideration
- Candidates must reside more than 60 miles from the facility to be eligible
Additional Information
- RNs transport patients to the recovery area following procedures; a transporter is available during the day for other transport needs
- Support staff includes a Cath Lab Coordinator/Supervisor, RT (24/7), Hospitalist (24/7), on-call Cardiologist, and an RRT/Code Team
- Travelers who have been at the facility for more than one assignment will be trained as monitors
- New-to-facility travelers and those returning after 1+ year absence receive 24 hours of classroom orientation; on-unit orientation is 1–3 shifts depending on comfort level
- Former permanent staff must wait 6 months before being considered for a traveler position
- One major and one minor seasonal holiday per contract is expected
- Green hospital scrubs are provided
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- An interview is required prior to any offer; candidates should be prepared accordingly
