Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a NICU float pool position at a Level III NICU/Level IV Perinatal teaching hospital, requiring IL licensure and the ability to float across multiple pediatric units at two campuses.
Details
- Float pool position covering multiple pediatric units including NICU, PICU, PCICU, General Pediatrics, and ER across two campuses (Oak Lawn & Park Ridge)
- 444-bed academic teaching hospital with a Level III NICU and Level IV Perinatal Center
- NICU patient population includes premature, neuro, GI, and feeder/grower infants; other units cover neonates through 18-year-olds with conditions including respiratory failure, congenital heart disease, hematology/oncology, post-surgical, and trauma
- Patient ratios: NICU 1:2, PICU 1:2, PCICU 1:2, General Pediatrics 1:3-4, ER 1:3-4
- Unit bed counts: NICU 61, PICU 24, PCICU 16, ER 22; General Pediatrics serves neonates to age 18
- 12-hour day shift, 7:00 AM–7:00 PM, three shifts per week; night shift availability (7:00 PM–7:00 AM) also noted
- Every other weekend rotation required
- No on-call requirements
- 6-week scheduling cycle; RTO requests go through the manager
- EMR: Epic (experience required)
- IV pump: Alaris; medication dispensing: Pyxis; monitoring: Medisonic
Requirements
- Active IL RN license required
- Current certifications required: BLS, PALS, and NRP
- Minimum 2 years of NICU or relevant pediatric nursing experience; most recent experience must be within the last year
- Epic EMR experience required
- Proficiency with trach management, mechanical ventilators, chest tubes, Foley catheters, surgical drains, arterial lines, CVLs, blood draws, IV starts, traction, CPAP, high-flow oxygen, oscillators, central lines, dressing changes, heliox, and nitric respiratory support
- Experience managing vasoactive and sedation drips including Fentanyl, Propofol, Precedex, Epinephrine, and Levophed
- Minimum 1 professional reference from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN dated within the last year
- Candidate DOB and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration

- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Former employees of Advocate Health or any of its subsidiaries must be separated for at least 12 months before being eligible for this travel assignment
- Local candidates are accepted at the same rate; no radius requirement
- Department support includes CNAs, a receptionist/HUC, a charge nurse per department, an IV/VAT team, respiratory therapy 24/7, hospitalists 24/7, and intensivists 24/7
- Orientation includes NEO onboarding plus 2 days of departmental orientation in PICU/PCICU
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of holidays
- Required scrub color: navy
