Description
American Traveler is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with NICU experience and neonatal intubation proficiency for a Level III NICU night shift travel position in Santa Barbara, CA.
Details
- Level III NICU at an acute care hospital setting
- Patient population includes neonates through adolescents
- Primarily night shifts (7pm–7:30am, 3x12), with occasional day shift opportunities based on unit needs
- Charting is done in Epic (experience required)
- Specialized ventilators required: Dräger VN500, Hamilton G5, and Hamilton T1
- High-frequency oscillator in use: 3100A
- Airway management responsibilities include direct neonatal and pediatric intubation, extubation, endotracheal tube suctioning, tracheostomy care, nasal and oral airway placement, and pulmonary hygiene
- Ventilator management includes BiPAP, CPAP, HFOV, IMV/SIMV, flow-by, and weaning protocols
- Neonatal and pediatric procedures include bubble CPAP, nasal CPAP, oscillating ventilator management, capillary and umbilical blood gases, apnea monitoring, and assistance with high-risk deliveries
- Medication administration includes Nitric Oxide (iNO), inhaled Flolan, Albuterol, Atrovent, Racemic Epinephrine, Mucomyst, Pulmicort, Lidocaine, Spiriva, and Terbutaline Sulfate
- Neonatal inter-departmental transports are part of the role
Requirements
- Active RRT credential required
- CA State Respiratory Care Practitioner license required (license required if applicable)
- Current certifications required: BLS, PALS, NRP
- Intubation certification required — ability to independently intubate neonates is a hard requirement for this position
- Minimum 2 years of respiratory therapy experience required
- Experience in NICU, Pediatric Critical Care, Peds, and ER settings required
- Transport experience required
- Epic EMR experience required
- Experience with Dräger VN500, Hamilton G5/T1 ventilators, and 3100A oscillator required
- 2 professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required for consideration
- Full 7-year work history with all gaps explained required for consideration
- All time-off or scheduling requests must be disclosed at the time of consideration
Additional Information
- RRTs are expected to practice at the top of their license in this role
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Responsibilities include ABG interpretation and drawing, chest physiotherapy, basic EKG, and sputum specimen collection
- Experienced in caring for patients with conditions such as bronchopulmonary dysplasia, respiratory distress syndrome, RSV, cystic fibrosis, pneumonia, transient tachypnea of the newborn, and near drowning
- Medication delivery systems used include metered dose inhalers, nebulizers (handheld, heated, cold, T-piece, trach collar), aerosol masks, and trach setups
