Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a rotating day/night shift assignment requiring 2 years of current MICU experience and prior travel experience.
Details
- Medical ICU (MICU) setting within a cancer hospital and research facility
- Adult and geriatric patient population
- Common diagnoses include oncologic emergencies, COPD, pneumonia, ARDS, GI bleed, neuromuscular disease, drug overdose, oncologic treatment complications, pulmonary hypertension, autoimmune disorders, and sepsis
- Manages hemodynamically compromised patients requiring mechanical ventilation, pulmonary artery catheter placement, CRRT, arterial pressure monitoring, cardiac monitoring, chest tubes, central venous catheters, chemotherapy administration, complex medication regimens, clinical trials, and plasmapheresis
- Patients may require bronchoscopy or endoscopy for underlying pulmonary and GI conditions
- 1:2 patient ratio
- 13-week assignment on a 12-hour rotating day/night schedule (3x12s), with shift assignments reviewed every 4-week scheduling period based on staffing needs
- Epic EMR experience required
Requirements
- Active RN license (Ohio or compact) required in hand at time of consideration
- BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of current MICU/ICU experience, consistently within the last 12 months, in the applied specialty
- Prior travel nursing experience required; first-time travelers will not be considered
- Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
- Skills required include IV therapy, IV starts, ventilator management, arterial line management, central and PICC line care, blood product administration, BiPAP/CPAP management, ABG interpretation, suctioning (ETT, NT), continuous IV sedation, procedural sedation monitoring, titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips, cardiac dysrhythmia interpretation and management, IV insulin protocols, and care of patients with multisystem organ dysfunction/failure
- Preferred skills include accessing/managing ports and external ventricular drain (EVD) management
- Two professional references required, with at least one from a manager/director or supervisor and the second from a charge RN; coworker references not accepted
Additional Information
- Deliver critical care nursing to complex ICU patients, including administration of chemotherapy and management of multisystem organ dysfunction
- Local candidates are accepted at the same pay rate
- Requested RTO must be submitted with the contract and limited to 7 days or less
- Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting promptly upon signing contract; those outside Ohio but within driving distance must travel to a fingerprinting location, while those farther away will receive a mailed fingerprinting packet
- Former employees of the facility are eligible for a travel assignment after being away for 6 months or more
- Current employees of the health system are not eligible to work as travelers at any of its Ohio hospital locations

Cons
Scheduled every weekend, floated for the first 6 weeks of contract every shift. Not traveler friendly even though they say they are. Staff are treated well not travelers.
