Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg-Tele position requiring a NC or compact RN license and prior Med/Tele experience at an academic Level 1 Trauma Center.
Details
- placement in a 10-bed Med/Surg-Tele unit (5C) at a Level 1 Trauma, academic medical center with 885 licensed beds
- Average daily census of 8 patients
- Cares for a variety of Med/Surg diagnoses including diabetes, respiratory and GI illnesses, neuro and trauma surgeries, and spinal precautions
- Also manages pre-CT surgery (CABG) and clean Cath lab patients, including TR band management
- RN to patient ratio of 1:5 and CNA ratio of 1:10
- 12-hour night shift schedule (1900-0700), 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend (EOW) rotation required
- No on-call or call-back requirements
- Floating required to Rehab, 4 Ardmore, 10 Reynolds, 9 Reynolds, 5 Ardmore, Burn-10 North, and 4A MedSurg Overflow as needed
- Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, and Omnicell medication dispensing system
- Telemetry monitors are located at bedside; RN independently reads and interprets cardiac strips
Requirements
- Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 1 year of Med/Surg-Tele experience required
- Travel experience preferred
- Skilled in cardiac rhythm interpretation, PCA pump management, surgical drain care, wound care, and TR band management
- Must be comfortable learning to manage Cardizem, Nitro, and Amio drips
- Experience with Epic EMR required
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Minimum of 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
Additional Information
- Work in a friendly, collaborative academic medical center environment
- Support staff includes CNAs, unit receptionist/HUC, and a charge nurse who is typically free-floating
- Peripheral blood draws performed by phlebotomy team; RNs are responsible for starting their own IVs
- Respiratory therapy, hospitalist, and intensivist support available 24/7
- Unit specialty equipment includes external fixators, chest tubes, PCAs, trachs, and complex wound care supplies
- Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) and 2 days of departmental orientation
- Royal blue scrubs required
- Free parking available onsite
- Travelers will be expected to work 75% of holidays
- Candidates must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to be considered, as local candidates are not accepted
- Previous employees of an AHSE facility must have been separated from any permanent position for at least 1 year before eligibility
- Clinical interview required as part of the hiring process
