Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Neuro unit position requiring a minimum of 1 year of recent nursing experience and BLS and NIHSS certifications.
Details
- 13-week travel contract with a 36 or 48 hour per week option
- Day shift, 4x12-hour shifts from 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM
- Med/Surg Neuro unit with 32 beds
- Patient nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6
- Patient population includes neurological, medical/surgical, genitourinary/renal, and plastics cases
- Epic EMR used; experience preferred
- 6 weekend shifts required within every 6-week period
- Floating to like units required as needed based on facility needs
- No on-call responsibilities
Requirements
- Active NM or Compact RN license required (pending NM/Compact license accepted, but must be obtained prior to start)
- Current BLS certification required (pending accepted)
- NIHSS certification required (pending accepted)
- CPI certification preferred
- Minimum 1 year of recent Med/Surg Neuro RN experience required; first-time travelers must have at least 24 months of total nursing experience
- Proficiency in IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, central line blood draw, peripheral line care, and PICC line management
- Experience with respiratory support (HFNC, nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, oxygen administration)
- Experience with neurological care including CVA management
- Experience with GI care including feeding tube and colostomy/ileostomy management
- Experience with wound care/wound vac and isolation precautions/PPE
- 2 professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required for consideration
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply, provided they have at least 24 months of nursing experience
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible; local candidates are not accepted
- Former permanent staff must have been separated from the facility for at least 1 year before being eligible to return as a traveler
- Travel pairs or groups are not accepted
- Brief orientation provided when floating to other units
- No RTO during the first week of orientation; up to 3 days of RTO may be auto-approved and must be disclosed at time of consideration
- Rapid response team activation is part of unit responsibilities
