Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry night shift position in Rochester, NY, requiring phlebotomy and IV placement competency along with an active NY RN license.
Details
- Med/Surg Telemetry unit in a community hospital setting
- Patient population includes those with acute respiratory failure, CHF, COPD exacerbation, pneumonia, and sepsis
- Day/evening nurse-to-patient ratio is 5:1 (with possible stretch to 6-7); night ratio is 6-7:1 (with possible stretch to 8-10 if staffing is short)
- PCTs are available on all units and assist with vital signs, blood glucose checks, EKGs, and ADLs
- Specialized equipment includes BiPAP, CPAP, high-flow oxygen, ventilators, trach, and chest tubes
- Charting is done in Epic
- Night shifts: 3x12-hour shifts, 19:00–07:00
- Every other weekend required
- No on-call requirements
- Floating within scope to similar units is required
- Block scheduling will be accommodated when possible
Requirements
- Active NY RN license currently in hand (no pending licenses accepted)
- Current BLS certification required; NIHSS preferred
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
- Phlebotomy and peripheral IV placement skills are mandatory for all RNs at this facility
- Proficiency in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and use of Rapid Response/Code teams
- Experience with peripheral line care/management, non-invasive airway management, and isolation precautions/PPE
- Experience with oxygen delivery devices including nasal cannula, face masks, and portable oxygen tanks
- Epic EMR experience is a hard requirement
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Two professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required for consideration
- Full 7-year work history with all gaps explained required for consideration
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Candidates must reside more than 75 miles from the facility to be eligible
- No more than 1 week (7 days) of RTO will be approved per contract
- All time-off and scheduling requests must be submitted at the time of application
- Candidates who have previously worked at this facility must have a gap of at least 1 year before returning
- Scrub color requirement: any combination of navy and white
- Pre-start modules are required and vary by specialty; total module time may reach up to 10 hours
- Candidates with foreign education should be prepared for verification
