Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) position requiring 2+ years of RN experience, hands-on cardiac surgery skills, and ACT experience for a 13-week night shift contract.

Details

  • Work setting is a hospital-based CVICU
  • Patient population includes post-cardiac surgery patients, including direct fresh open-heart admissions from the OR
  • Patient ratio is 1:2, based on acuity; unit may occasionally accommodate step-down level overflow patients
  • Schedule is three 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM), including weekdays and weekends
  • Blocked schedules are available
  • Contract length is 13 weeks with possibility of extension
  • EMR is Cerner (experience preferred)

Requirements

  • Active WV or Compact RN license required; pending license accepted
  • Current AHA certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • ACT (Activated Clotting Time) experience is required
  • Experience required in direct fresh open-heart admissions from the OR, cardiac surgery, pressure monitoring, Swan-Ganz management, Impella monitoring, and CRRT
  • Proficiency in arterial line management, central line care, PICC line management, IV therapy, and blood product administration
  • Experience with cardiac drip and vasoactive drip titration, continuous IV sedation, and ventilated patient care
  • Experience with dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and management of multisystem organ dysfunction/failure
  • SSN, DOB, and a copy of driver's license required for consideration
  • Minimum 2 Manager and/or Charge Nurse references from the past 2 years required

Additional Information

  • Provide direct nursing care to cardiovascular ICU patients, including those admitted directly from the OR following open-heart surgery
  • Responsibilities include Swan-Ganz and Impella monitoring, CRRT management, hemodynamic pressure monitoring, and ACT management
  • Additional skills include care of ventilated patients, ABG interpretation, BiPAP/CPAP management, IABP, TAVR, valve repair/replacement, LVAD/RVAD, pre/post cardiac cath, and sheath removal
  • Orientation is held every other Monday
  • RTO requests must be submitted at the time of consideration
  • Candidates must have a permanent address greater than 100 miles from the facility; candidates residing 75–100 miles away may be considered on a case-by-case basis at the same rate
  • Former permanent employees of the Vandalia Health System (including associated facilities) must wait 2 years from their last permanent employment date before being eligible for a travel contract; current employees in any capacity are not eligible
  • Candidates with previous probationary actions on their license will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
