Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry Pulmonary position at a Level 1 Trauma, Magnet-designated acute care hospital, requiring telemetry and pulmonary care experience.

• Acute care hospital setting at a Level 1 Trauma, Magnet-designated facility
• 30-bed medical-surgical unit combined with an 8-bed progressive care (IMC) unit focused on pulmonary patients
• Patient diagnoses include pneumonia, COPD, CHF, COVID-19, and pulmonary embolism, with complex cases requiring advanced respiratory and cardiac monitoring
• Procedures include oxygen therapy, IV medications, moderate sedation monitoring during bronchoscopies, chest tube care, tracheostomy care, post-op care, non-invasive ventilation, and mechanical ventilation
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:3 (IMC/progressive care), 1:4–5 on day shifts and 1:5–6 on night shifts (med-surg)
• MS travelers are assigned to the Med-Surg unit only; IMC travelers work in both the IMC and Med-Surg units
• EMR: Epic (documentation); Alaris pumps for IV fluids; Acudose for medication dispensing
• 12-hour rotating day/night shifts, every other weekend and holidays required
• Floating to Med-Surg float units required; travelers are first to be reassigned to another department
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active SD or compact state RN license required
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA) required; specialty certification preferred
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Proficiency with BiPAP, CPAP, Heated High Flow, oxygen titration, moderate sedation, telemetry, and medical-surgical patient care required
• Experience with Epic EMR preferred
• Previous employment at any Sanford Health location must be disclosed; prior Sanford employees must have an end date at least 6 months before consideration
• 2 references required: 1 supervisor reference within the last 12 months of relevant experience, and 1 peer or supervisor reference from the position's specialty within the last 3 years
• All certifications must be active (no pending certifications accepted)

Additional Information

• 3-day orientation program: Day 1 includes competency validation with nurse educators covering telemetry and mechanical ventilation, online modules, and core competency validations; Day 2 includes a preceptored shift with unit tour and hands-on patient care; Day 3 is an independent 12-hour shift on the unit
• RNs advocate for patient safety and quality care while developing critical thinking, time management, and patient care prioritization skills
• The unit participates in hospital-wide and unit-specific committees including Patient Experience, Performance Improvement, Clinical Reasoning, Research, Ethics, and Service Excellence
• Navy blue scrubs required
• All clinicians must badge in and out at the facility
• Candidates with a permanent address within 80 miles of the facility are eligible but subject to a different pay structure
