Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced OR RN for a 13-week travel assignment requiring prior robotics experience and Epic proficiency in an acute care hospital setting.
Details
- Acute care hospital OR setting with 9 OR suites, 1 procedure room, and 1 hybrid room
- OR is open 24/7 and averages 35–45 cases per day
- Wide variety of surgical specialties including general, ENT, eyes, ortho, robotics (Da Vinci and Rosa), neuro spine (burr holes, VP shunts, ventrics, laminectomies, discectomies, fusions, TLIF, ALIF, nerve stimulators), total joints (shoulders, hips, knees), ORIF, external fixation, scopes, sports medicine, podiatry, hand surgery, open fractures, vascular (AV fistulas, carotids, angiograms, fem-pops, BKA), peds dental and ENT, and emergent cases (appendectomies, trauma, craniotomies) — all surgical cases except CVOR and L&D C-sections
- Charting via Epic (experience required)
- Primary shift is 12 hrs x 3 days, M–F, 7A–7:30P
- On-call rotation includes one weeknight per rotation (7P–7A) and one 24-hour weekend call per month (7A–7P)
- Holiday call rotation required as needed
- Call response time is 30 minutes; candidates who live more than 30 minutes away and are on call may be required to stay on-site
- Floating to outpatient surgery as needed
- Scrubs provided for RNs and OR techs
Requirements
- Active WV or compact RN license required
- Current certifications required: BLS (AHA) and ACLS (AHA); PALS preferred
- Minimum 2–3 years of OR experience required
- Minimum 2–3 prior travel assignments required
- Ortho scrub experience required
- Must have hands-on experience passing arms in and out for robotic surgery (Da Vinci)
- Candidates working evening/night shifts must be experienced across all surgical specialties, as the overnight RN works with only 2 techs
- Epic EMR experience required
- Must hold a valid driver's license with an address at least 50 miles from the facility
- Two professional references required: one supervisor reference and one peer or additional supervisor reference (e.g., Charge RN)
- Copies of certifications and driver's license required for consideration
- Skills checklist completed within the past year required for consideration
Additional Information
- OR staff is composed almost entirely of travel clinicians
- OR techs are responsible for room turnover; no aides or housekeeping support available
- Charge nurse coverage is available 7A–7P; charge nurses will circulate cases if needed; travelers rotate through charge responsibilities
- Scrubbing is a plus but not required
- Orientation consists of 3 shifts over 1 week
- Candidates with limited experience in one service line may be considered for day shifts (7A–3:30P) with facility support and teaching available
- Candidates must demonstrate proficiency across all specialties for evening, night, and 3–11 shifts
- No self-scheduling for travelers; block scheduling may be allowed if it meets unit needs
- All candidates interview directly with a unit manager
- Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
- Travelers are not permitted to work within the WVU system for more than one cumulative year; once the year mark is reached, a 2-year break is required before returning
