Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 13-week travel contract on a Med/Surg Telemetry unit specializing in Ortho, Urology, and Neuro-Spine care, with evening shift availability and every-other-weekend requirements.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting with a Level II Trauma designation
- 29-bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit (7N) focusing on Orthopedic, Urological, Neurological, Vascular, and Oncology/GYN patient populations
- Common diagnoses include orthopedic trauma (fractures, joint replacements), vascular procedures (fem-pop bypass, carotid endarterectomy, heparin drips), urology (TURP, TURBT, continuous bladder irrigation), neuro-spine (laminectomy, fusion, back pain), and OB/GYN oncology
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:4–5 on days, 1:5–6 on nights
- Telemetry technicians monitor patients 24/7; RNs are not required to read their own strips
- RNs are required to titrate drips per prescribed nomogram; common drips include heparin, nitroglycerin, bivalirudin, Cardizem, and insulin
- Respiratory therapy support is on-site; equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen therapy — no ventilators
- Nursing assistants are present on all shifts with varying ratios; RNs take on additional vital sign and ADL responsibilities during the 7pm–7am timeframe
- Charting system is Cerner (transitioning to Epic)
- 13-week contract with 12-hour evening shifts (1100–2330)
- Rotating schedule of 40 HPW and 32 HPW
- Every-other-weekend requirement
- Every-other-holiday requirement
- No on-call or standby requirements
- Float required to other adult medical/surgical nursing units
Requirements
- Active WI or Compact RN license required by start date
- Current BLS certification (AHA) required and must be active
- Minimum 1–2 years of acute care nursing experience required
- 2 professional references required for consideration: 1 supervisor reference from within the last 12 months of relevant experience, and 1 peer or supervisor reference from within the last 3 years of relevant experience
Additional Information
- Orientation consists of 1 day of computer training followed by 1–2 days of precepted floor orientation
- No self-scheduling; block scheduling is used based on staffing needs
- Any color scrubs are acceptable, as long as they are clean and professional
- Candidates who previously worked at this facility as permanent staff must have an end date at least 6 months prior to their consideration date, and hospital approval is required
- Candidates residing within 80 miles of the facility are considered local and may be subject to a reduced travel pay rate
- BSN is not required for this position
