Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level 1 Trauma, academic medical center, requiring a minimum of 2 years of Med/Surg Tele experience and night shift availability.
Details
- Work in a 10-bed Medical/Surgical Tele unit (5CCW) within a 885-bed Level 1 Trauma, academic medical center
- Patient population includes renal/pancreatic transplant (donors and recipients), gynecological oncology, surgical oncology, urology, colorectal surgery, and bariatric/minimally invasive surgery
- RN-to-patient ratio of 1:4-5; CNA support at 1:10
- Skilled procedures include trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, PCA, surgical drain management, wound care, and drip management (Rituxan, thymoglobulin, neostigmine)
- EMR: Epic (experience required); IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Philips; unit-specific equipment includes ON-Q pumps
- 12-hour night shifts, 1830–0700, 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- Floating required to 7 Reynolds, 7 Ardmore, 5 Reynolds, and Day Hospital units
- No on-call or call-back requirements
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Tele (MST) experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Strong assessment, critical thinking, communication, and patient advocacy skills required
- Proficiency with Epic EMR required
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
Additional Information
- Unit culture emphasizes teamwork, flexibility, and a "no man left behind" philosophy
- Support staff includes CNAs, an adjacent unit secretary (Day Hospital), designated day shift charge RNs, experienced resource nurses on nights, respiratory therapy (24/7), and attending physicians/residents/APPs
- RNs are responsible for drawing STAT and timed labs; some phlebotomy support is available
- Several RNs on the unit are trained for ultrasound-guided IV placement; no dedicated IV/VAT team
- Orientation includes facility NEO and 1 day of departmental orientation
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Royal blue scrubs required
- Free on-site parking available
- First-time travelers may be considered depending on experience
- Candidates who have worked a permanent position at an AHSE facility must be separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
