  • No on-call requirements
  • Holiday coverage required
  • EMR: Epic (experience from within the past 2 years required)
  • Medication system: Pyxis
  • Equipment includes Sigma IV pumps, CAAD PCA pumps, Kangaroo tube feed pumps, GE EKG machines, Stryker beds, Mindray cardiac monitoring, and Hill-Rom nurse call systems
  • Respiratory therapy and anesthesia available 24/7 for support

Requirements

  • Active RN license — VT or Compact state license accepted; NY candidates may be considered with proof of pending NY licensure included
  • Current BLS and ACLS (AHA) required; NIHSS required prior to start
  • Telemetry certification required
  • Minimum 2 years of clinical RN experience required; minimum 1 year in Med/Surg Telemetry specialty required
  • Active telemetry skills required: ability to apply leads, interpret rhythms, and take clinical action
  • Competency with NG tube insertion and peripheral IV insertion required
  • Epic experience within the past 2 years required — non-negotiable
  • Must have completed 2 travel assignments in facilities with 300+ beds, OR have previous experience at a UVM Health Network acute care facility
  • At least 2 professional references from a Nurse Manager and/or Supervisor required — at least 1 from the past 6 months and 1 from within the past year of employment
  • SSN and DOB required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Bedside RN responsibilities include NG tube insertion, peripheral IV insertion, and real-time telemetry strip interpretation and response
  • The unit operates as a tight-knit, collaborative team; RNs, LPNs, and LNAs work closely together and travelers are expected to integrate seamlessly with all care team members and communicate effectively with patients, families, and caregivers
  • Orientation includes 1–2 precepted shifts in addition to time with nurse educators prior to independent patient contact
  • Scheduling is managed through an online platform called When-to-Work, with schedules published by the manager in advance
  • Scrubs are flexible — wear your own or use the facility's; professional appearance required with closed-toe, non-skid shoes; minimal jewelry; groomed hair/beard; no artificial nails
  • Parking is free on-site
  • Public transportation is not accessible in this area — a reliable personal or rental vehicle is strongly recommended, as housing options may be located up to 15 minutes from the facility
  • Pay rates are tiered based on distance from the facility (by direct line): travel rate for 101+ miles, radius rate for 51–100 miles, and local rate for 50 miles or less

Pros

I couldn’t have asked for a better experience for my first travel assignment. American Traveler has made the entire process feel easy from start to finish. Everything was explained clearly, and I always knew what the next step was, i never felt like i was left in the dark. One of my favorite things has been how communicative everyone is. Whether it’s my recruiter, Amanda, or Iranna from payroll, I always get a quick response when I have a question. It’s nice working with a team that actually follows up and keeps you in the loop. Amanda has been awesome throughout my assignment. She checks in regularly with a call or text just to see how things are going and make sure I don’t need anything. That level of support has really stood out to me. I’m rly happy I chose American Traveler for my first assignment, and I wouldn’t hesitate to work with them again.
