Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry Float Pool position in the Denver, CO area, requiring 2 years of MS/Tele experience and the ability to float across multiple facilities within a 60-mile zone.
Details
- Float pool position covering multiple acute care hospitals within Zone 3, centered around Denver, CO (no single home base facility)
- Float zone includes four hospitals within a 60-mile radius of the Denver city center, spanning Lakewood, Longmont, and Westminster, CO
- MS/Tele float pool covering a wide range of specialties including Cardiac, Neuro, Oncology, Rehab, Renal, Bariatrics, Ortho, Trauma, and ED Observation
- Adult and geriatric patient population with diagnoses spanning cardiac, neuro, ortho, oncology, renal, urology post-surgical, general surgery, gynecology, psych/detox, ENT, and general medicine
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5–6 based on acuity
- May be asked to float into other acuity levels including ICU (low acuity holds), PCU/Stepdown, and MS/Tele
- Heparin drip titration required
- RT equipment in use including vents, CPAP, and BiPAP
- Nurse aides are available on the unit
- Charting is performed in Epic
- 13-week contract, night shift, 12-hour shifts
- 6–9 weekend shifts required per 6-week schedule
- Schedules are released 4–6 weeks in advance; two scheduling formats are used: Option A (assigned to a single facility for the week, with possible intra-facility floating) or Option B / Just-In-Time (JIT), where facility assignment is communicated 1–2 hours before shift start
Requirements
- Active CO RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license currently in hand — pending licenses are not accepted
- Active certifications required: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) — pending certifications are not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of MS/Tele nursing experience required
- Prior neuro experience preferred
- A valid driver's license is required
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
Additional Information
- Travelers must reside at least 60 miles from the Denver city center (the zone's city center); this radius requirement applies regardless of where housing is secured within the assignment, and a driver's license will be used to verify permanent address
- Travelers are expected to float throughout the full 60-mile Zone 3 and must secure housing that makes this feasible
- Candidates must not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any facility affiliated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity Health, within the past year; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- All time-off requests must be submitted prior to starting the assignment
- Holiday rotation coverage may be required
- On-call/standby requirements are rare and typically related to low census
- Unit orientation consists of 1–2 days with a preceptor; clinicians must be on-site in Colorado for the week of orientation even if initial modules are completed remotely
- A designated charge nurse is on each unit and does not typically take a patient assignment, though night shift charge nurses may occasionally carry a small patient load
- Scrubs of any color are accepted
- Travelers are expected to be flexible to help fill scheduling gaps around permanent staff schedules
- Interview is conducted with a clinical team — no unit manager involvement

Pros
I couldn’t have asked for a better experience for my first travel assignment. American Traveler has made the entire process feel easy from start to finish. Everything was explained clearly, and I always knew what the next step was, i never felt like i was left in the dark. One of my favorite things has been how communicative everyone is. Whether it’s my recruiter, Amanda, or Iranna from payroll, I always get a quick response when I have a question. It’s nice working with a team that actually follows up and keeps you in the loop. Amanda has been awesome throughout my assignment. She checks in regularly with a call or text just to see how things are going and make sure I don’t need anything. That level of support has really stood out to me. I’m rly happy I chose American Traveler for my first assignment, and I wouldn’t hesitate to work with them again.
