Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a fast-paced Med/Surg unit specializing in orthopedic and spinal surgical patients, requiring prior ortho experience and a LA or compact RN license.
Details
- Acute care hospital Med/Surg unit with 26 beds
- Orthopedic and spinal surgical patient population, including total joints (knees, hips, shoulders, ankles, wrists), spinal procedures, sports medicine, and MVA-related abdominal and cervical cases
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:4 on days, 1:5 on nights
- Nurse aides available on the unit with a 1:8-9 patient ratio
- RNs are required to have basic cardiac rhythm interpretation skills; telemetry monitoring is present on the unit
- Antibiotic drip management required; vasoactive drip titration is not required
- RT equipment in use includes home CPAP and BiPAP devices
- EMR is a computerized charting system (not Epic or Cerner)
- 12-hour day shifts with a 6:45 AM start time on a 36/48-hour rotating schedule
- Every other weekend required on the 36/48 rotation
- Holiday coverage required when the holiday falls on a scheduled workday
- No on-call or standby requirements
- No floating required
Requirements
- Active LA or compact RN license required (willing to wait for license)
- Current AHA BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
- Prior orthopedic nursing experience required
- Experience working in a fast-paced, high-turnover environment required
- Proficiency in IV starts required
- BSN not required
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
Additional Information
- High-volume unit with approximately 25 patient admissions and discharges per day
- Charge nurse is typically available on the unit and does not routinely carry a full assignment
- Unit/department orientation is 36–48 hours, with additional time provided based on individual needs
- Schedule is set by the manager two weeks in advance; block scheduling may be considered based on departmental needs but is not guaranteed
- Black scrubs required with white or black underlayers
- First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
