Details
- Acute care hospital setting on a 27-bed Med/Surg Post-Surgical unit (Level 7)
- Patient population includes post-operative orthopedic (knee/hip/shoulder replacements, hip fractures), GU (TURBT, TURP, bladder biopsy), general surgery (hemicolectomy, cholecystectomy, appendectomy, hernia repair), and cath lab patients (post-peripheral interventions, dialysis cath insertions)

- Holiday rotation may be required on a group alternating schedule (Group 1: New Year's Day, 4th of July, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve; Group 2: Memorial Day, Labor Day, Christmas)
- Floating required on a rotating basis to other MS, MS-Tele, or IMC units for lower acuity patients as needed; staff is also shared with the IRF (rehab unit)
- No on-call requirement; low-census early dismissal (EA) is possible per unit staffing needs
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active WV RN license or a Compact RN license currently in hand
- Current BLS certification required
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required

Additional Information
- Responsibilities include post-operative care, wound vac changes, blood transfusions, PCA pump management, and heparin drip titration per protocol
- Charge nurses are present on every shift; day shift charge does not take a patient assignment, while night shift charge may carry a small assignment of 2–3 patients
- Orientation consists of 1 day with an educator followed by 1–2 days with a preceptor
- Navy blue or white scrubs required; scrubs are not provided by the facility
- Candidates who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before being considered; cumulative travel experience at WVU facilities may not exceed one year total

Pros
I couldn’t have asked for a better experience for my first travel assignment. American Traveler has made the entire process feel easy from start to finish. Everything was explained clearly, and I always knew what the next step was, i never felt like i was left in the dark. One of my favorite things has been how communicative everyone is. Whether it’s my recruiter, Amanda, or Iranna from payroll, I always get a quick response when I have a question. It’s nice working with a team that actually follows up and keeps you in the loop. Amanda has been awesome throughout my assignment. She checks in regularly with a call or text just to see how things are going and make sure I don’t need anything. That level of support has really stood out to me. I’m rly happy I chose American Traveler for my first assignment, and I wouldn’t hesitate to work with them again.
