Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Trauma night shift position requiring Level I Trauma experience and 5+ years of nursing experience.
Details
- >Medical Surgical unit within a Level I Trauma Center at a Magnet-designated teaching hospital
- Cares for trauma, geriatric trauma, and acute care surgery patients including MVA/MVC, falls, abuse/violence victims, appendicitis, gallbladder, hernia repair, and TBI cases
- Patients are admitted from the ED, OR, or ICU
- Patient ratio of 1:4-6
- Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours (7:00 PM-7:30 AM)
- Option to sign for 36 or 48 hours per week
- Required to work every other weekend
- No on-call responsibilities
- Floating required within scope and service line to meet facility needs
- Uses Epic charting system
- Utilizes specialized equipment including lifts, restraints, wound vacs, traction, and external fixators
Requirements
- Active MO or compact RN license required at time of consideration
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 5 years of RN experience required
- Level I and Level II Trauma experience required
- Epic charting experience required
- Must pass Relias EKG exam covering interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Experience required in blood product administration, peripheral line care/management, phlebotomy, IV starts, insulin administration, and PCA management
- Experience required with spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injury, ortho trauma, peripheral nerve block catheters, and total joint replacements
- Experience required with surgical drains, chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, nasal cannula, oral suctioning, and oxygen delivery devices
- Experience required with isolation precautions and wound care/wound vac management
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Previous charge nurse experience preferred
- BSN, CPI, NIHSS, and TNCC certifications preferred
- Travel nursing experience required
Additional Information
- Provide medical-surgical nursing care to a trauma and acute care surgery patient population
- Must reside outside a 75-mile radius of the facility; local candidates are not accepted
- Maximum of 7 days RTO permitted per 13-week contract, with no RTO allowed during the first week of the assignment
- Standard travelers may work up to an 18-month period before requiring a 3-month break in service
- Former permanent employees of BJC or Saint Luke's must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
- Navy blue scrub color required
- Facial hair must allow for proper respirator fit testing or will need to be shaved
- First-time travelers may be considered depending on experience level
