Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 13-week night shift contract on an Ortho-Neuro Med/Surg unit, with Epic experience and orthopedic patient care skills required.
Details
- Work in a 33-bed, all-private-room Ortho-Neuro Med/Surg unit in an acute care hospital setting
- Patient population includes elective orthopedic surgeries (hips, knees, shoulders), fall-related fractures, neuro-surgical cases (back and neck), and general Med/Surg patients
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6
- Patient Care Techs (PCTs) available on the unit to assist with vitals, blood glucose checks, ADLs, and Foley removal
- Charge Nurse coverage is available 24/7; night charge nurses carry a full patient assignment
- IV fluids and PCA pumps are used; no heparin or other titratable drips
- Remote telemetry available if needed, monitored by another floor — RNs are not required to read strips
- CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen available and managed by Respiratory Therapy
- 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM with a 30-minute lunch break
- Every-other-weekend requirement; night shift weekends include Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
- Travelers are first to float and may be assigned to any Med/Surg unit; if floated to a tele unit, assignments will be within the traveler's skillset
- Epic EMR is used on this unit
Requirements
- Active WV or Compact RN license required
- Current BLS certification (AHA) required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Orthopedic patient care experience required
- PCA pump experience required
- Epic EMR experience required
- Valid driver's license copy required for consideration
Additional Information
- Orientation consists of 1 day of Epic training followed by 1 day of floor orientation with a preceptor; traveler is expected to work independently by day 3
- Travelers will be scheduled where needed; block scheduling may be accommodated as long as unit needs are met
- Holiday coverage may be required depending on unit staffing needs
- Royal blue scrubs required; scrub jackets must be royal blue if worn — no hoodies or non-scrub jackets permitted
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from this WVU facility to be eligible
- Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
- Cumulative travel experience at WVU facilities is limited to one year, after which a 2-year break is required before returning
- All time-off requests should be disclosed upfront during the prescreening process
