Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a MS/Tele/PCU Float Pool position at an acute care hospital in Arizona, requiring at least 2 years of experience and the ability to titrate cardiac drips across multiple units and campuses.
Details
- Float pool covers MedSurg Tele and PCU units across two campuses, including inpatients holding in the ED
- West Campus PCU (stepdown) has 14 double-occupancy rooms with an average census of 20; West MedTele has 95 beds divided into 4 areas with 10-room double-occupancy pods
- East Campus is a smaller, similar setup with ICU and stepdown patients in a 10-bed double-occupancy unit
- Patient population includes geriatric, orthopedic, post-procedural (cath lab), post-MI, post-cardiac cath, and CABG post-op day 3–4 patients
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: PCU 1:4, MedSurg Tele 1:5–6
- RNs are required to titrate drips; common titratable drips include Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Insulin
- Respiratory equipment includes CPAP/BiPAP in MedSurg and BiPAP, CPAP, and heated high-flow in PCU
- Monitor techs cover PCU and MedSurg Tele; nurses must be able to independently interpret telemetry strips
- Nurse aides are utilized across all settings; charge nurses are present on each unit and do not take patient assignments
- Charting system is Cerner
- 12-hour day shifts (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
- Every other weekend required
- First to float policy applies
- No on-call or standby requirement
- Float assignments are communicated via text message from the staffing office approximately 2 hours prior to shift start; travel time between campuses is approximately 20–25 minutes
Requirements
- Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license currently in hand; pending licenses are not accepted
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications are not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- At least 1 year of PCU-level nursing experience required
- Must be comfortable titrating the majority of common cardiac drips (Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Insulin)
- Ability to independently interpret telemetry/cardiac rhythm strips
- Cerner EMR experience preferred
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility (permanent address as shown on driver's license is used to verify eligibility)
- Must not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facility within the past year (candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered)
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- Candidates must take and pass a Relias Dysrhythmia exam (scoring 80% or higher) within two attempts before an offer can be confirmed; failure to pass within two attempts results in ineligibility for CommonSpirit AZ facilities for 6 months
- A pass/fail sterile technique test covering Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes is administered on the first day of orientation; failure on the second attempt results in the same 6-month ineligibility
- Orientation consists of an 8-hour general hospital orientation day, a 12-hour shift on West MedTele, and a 12-hour shift on West PCU
- Travelers will be included in the permanent staff holiday rotation
- Travelers must be flexible with scheduling; the float pool scheduler creates the schedule, published 6 weeks out for 4-week blocks; night shift will attempt to accommodate block scheduling requests
- Current dress code is solid-color professional scrubs; transitioning to navy scrubs in October in alignment with system guidelines
- Travelers will be notified of their unit assignment via text message approximately 2 hours before each shift
