Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a travel Emergency Department position at a Level IV Trauma Center in Milwaukee, WI, requiring 3 years of fast-paced ED experience and a Wisconsin or compact RN license.

Details

• Work in a 35-bed Emergency Department with 6 additional fast-track rooms at a Level IV Trauma Center, Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center, and accredited teaching hospital in Milwaukee, WI
• Patient population spans neonates to geriatrics, with a heavy mental health volume, trauma cases (GSW, stabbings, falls, MVC), invasive neuro, and STEMI patients who are stabilized and transferred
• Average patient census is approximately 168 patients per day
• Patient ratios are 1:4 (acuity-based) in the main ED and 1:6 in fast track
• 12-hour evening shift, 1100–2300, 36 hours per week
• Weekend rotation required every other weekend as needed
• Holiday coverage required for every other major holiday
• No on-call or call-back requirements
• No floating required
• EMR: Epic (experience required); also uses Alaris and Pyxis

Requirements

• Active WI or compact RN license required
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, and TNCC
• Minimum 3 years of ED experience in a fast-paced emergency department setting
• Most recent experience must be within the last year
• Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation, IV therapy, critical care drip knowledge, TPA administration, blood administration, procedural sedation, and code blue response
• NIHSS experience required — certification cannot be obtained after hire start
• Triage experience strongly preferred
• At least 1 professional reference from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN dated within the past year required for consideration
• Candidate's full middle name or initial, date of birth, and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

• Unit is a locked department with a security home base in the ED lobby
• 24/7 support includes unit secretary, ED techs (blood draws, glucose checks), charge nurse, RT, ED physicians, mid-level providers, and security
• Additional support from phlebotomy (trauma and difficult sticks), OT, PT, ST, and an ED educator
• Central and bedside telemetry monitoring available on the unit
• Orientation consists of 1 x 12-hour shift on the unit
• First-time travelers will be considered on a case-by-case basis based on strength of experience
• Former employees of Advocate Health or any of its subsidiaries must be separated for at least 12 months before being eligible
• Local candidates are accepted at the same rate — no radius restrictions apply
• Professional scrubs required; any color is acceptable
