Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced Emergency Department RN with a minimum of 2 years of ED experience for a 13-week travel assignment at a Level IV Trauma Center in Michigan.
Details
- Work setting is an acute care hospital Emergency Department with 14 beds and 2 trauma bays
- Facility is a Level IV Trauma Center; STEMI and stroke patients are transferred out to higher-level facilities
- Fast Track area available with 3 designated rooms
- Separate triage area with 2 triage rooms; travelers may perform triage after reviewing facility policies and procedures
- Patients are typically held within the department, with an attached ACU used for overflow
- Dedicated psych/seclusion rooms available, with the ability to convert other rooms as needed
- Average daily patient volume is 40–60
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3–4 during the day, with higher ratios at night; after 3am, only 2 RNs are on until 7am
- Common patient presentations include traumas, STEMIs, strokes, hunting injuries, MVAs, and agricultural-related cases
- ED Physician is in-house 24/7, with mid-level providers also on staff
- Support staff includes 24/7 phlebotomy, RT in-house 24/7 (ABG, breathing treatments, EKG), CNAs, medics, and LPNs floating to the ED for tasks
- No monitor techs; RNs are responsible for reading their own strips via a central monitoring station
- X-ray is located down the hall with 24/7 availability; CT is immediately adjacent to the department
- Charting system is currently Cerner, transitioning to Epic
- 12-hour evening and night shifts with start times of 3pm and 7pm
- Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday) required
- Holiday coverage required for at least 2 out of 3 winter holidays; otherwise typically every other holiday during the contract
- Floating to inpatient units for helping hands may be required
- No formal on-call requirement; any early dismissal is voluntary and without pay
Requirements
- Active MI RN license required (must be active by start date)
- Required certifications: ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA), PALS (AHA), and TNCC — all must be active
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department experience required
- 2 professional references required: 1 supervisor reference from within the last 12 months of relevant experience, and 1 peer or supervisor reference from within the last 3 years of relevant experience

- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Candidates who previously worked at this facility as permanent staff must have an end date at least 6 months prior to being considered; hospital approval is also required
- Candidates residing within 80 miles of the facility are considered local and may be subject to a reduced travel pay rate
- Scrubs should be any solid color, clean and professional
- Orientation consists of computer-based training followed by 2 days of floor orientation, including department-specific policies
