Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Critical Care Float position requiring a minimum of 3 years of ICU experience, Level 1 Trauma experience, and a Massachusetts RN license.

Details

  • Critical care float position in an adult hospital setting
  • Travelers will float across all adult ICUs and step-down units
  • Will not be assigned to post cardiac surgery, balloon pump, Impella, transplant, or EVD patients
  • Night shift schedule: 4x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
  • Every other weekend and holiday rotation required
  • All call-outs must be made up by the end of the assignment
  • Charting system: Epic (required)
  • Neuro ICU and Surgical ICU are among the units covered

Requirements

  • Active MA RN license required; conditional MA license accepted for candidates actively working toward permanent licensure
  • Current BLS and ACLS required; NIHSS and TCAR preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of ICU experience required
  • Level 1 Trauma facility experience required; 5 years in a Level 1 Trauma facility preferred
  • Previous charge nurse experience required
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • 2 professional references required, with at least one from a Nurse Manager or higher
  • Candidates must have a clean nursing license with no prior disciplinary actions
  • Candidates must reside more than 200 miles from the facility to qualify for the travel pay rate; local candidates within that radius are accepted at the same bill rate
  • Key required skills include: arterial line management, central line care, PICC line management, ventilator management, BiPAP/CPAP management, CVVHD/CRRT, continuous IV sedation and paralytics, vasoactive and cardiac drip titration, PA line/Swan-Ganz monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and multisystem organ failure management
  • Preferred skills include: IABP, Impella, LVAD/RVAD, post cardiac surgery care, EVD management, ICP monitoring, hypothermia protocol/Arctic Sun, and post-neurosurgery management

Additional Information

  • Candidates must be fully comfortable floating to all adult ICUs; those not comfortable with this expectation should not apply
  • Orientation includes two pass/fail exams: a medication exam and a telemetry (EKG) exam — each allowing only one attempt; failure results in immediate contract cancellation
  • Study materials are provided during the compliance process and facility-delivered instruction (FDIs)
  • Contract lengths of 13, 20, or 26 weeks are accepted
  • Minimal RTO requested; 3–5 days preferred, up to 14 days may be submitted for review with no RTO permitted in the first week
  • This is a union facility; no special scheduling accommodations can be made and candidates must be available to work all 7 days of the week
  • Candidates who have previously worked for this health system must have a 12-month separation before being considered
  • First-time travelers may be considered with significant ICU experience

I couldn’t have asked for a better experience for my first travel assignment. American Traveler has made the entire process feel easy from start to finish.
