Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an ER Holding (Adult Admission Unit) position at a Level I Trauma, academic teaching hospital in New Mexico, requiring telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia management skills.

Details

• Works in the Adult Admission Unit (AAU), a fast-paced ER holding unit that receives admitted patients directly from the Emergency Department and initiates inpatient standard of care until placement on one of the facility's 11 progressive care units
• Patient population is diverse, covering all specialties except ICU-level acuity
• Unit has 17 beds plus up to 8 hall beds, with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4–5
• Serves a high-turnover environment requiring the ability to manage frequent patient admissions and transfers
• Telemetry monitoring and interpretation are required components of daily practice
• Charting is performed in Cerner
• Shift schedule is nights, 4x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
• Floating is required to the adjacent ED for admitted patients, ICU for sub-acute care (SAC) assignments, and inpatient PCU areas
• No on-call requirements
• Block scheduling will be considered
• No parking fee at this facility

Requirements

• Active NM or Compact RN license required; pending licensure may be accepted
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) — RQI certifications are not accepted
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• Proficiency in telemetry monitoring, interpretation of dysrhythmias, and management of dysrhythmias required
• Skills required include IV therapy/phlebotomy, medication administration, and management of cardiac drips (non-titrating)
• Prior travel nursing experience required for the ER; first-time travelers may still be considered
• Level I Trauma experience preferred
• Prior charge nurse experience preferred
• Non-local driver's license required on file
• Candidates must reside more than 100 miles from the facility to be eligible

Additional Information

• Responsibilities include initiating inpatient care for ED-admitted patients, managing medical equipment, and coordinating timely patient transfers to progressive care units
• Relief charge nurse duties may be required as needed
• Must pass an EKG competency test (pass/fail; maximum 2 attempts — a failed second attempt results in a 6-month system DNR)
• Scrubs must be black and are not provided by the facility
• RTO exceeding 7 days requires client approval; no RTO during the first 7 days or on the last day of the contract
• After 1 year or 4 consecutive assignments with this health system (whichever comes first), a 6-month break is required before returning
• Former permanent staff must have a minimum 12-month separation before being eligible
• 13-week contract with a minimum contract length of 10 weeks for new contracts and extensions
