Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced travel RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry Float Pool position at a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated teaching hospital, requiring prior travel experience and strong ortho/neuro/cardiac skills.

Details

  • 26-week contract working day shifts (0700-1930), three 12-hour shifts per week
  • Float pool position covering all acute care and telemetry units, including Behavioral Health and Respite
  • Patient population includes ortho/trauma, neuro-stroke, cardiac telemetry, post-cardiac procedures, and pre/post neurosurgery cases
  • Patient ratio of 1:4-5
  • Shifts may be split into an 8-hour block in one area and a 4-hour block in another, requiring strong time management
  • Every other weekend is required, with flexibility requested beyond that
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating within the hospital is required to meet facility needs
  • Charts using Epic (required)
  • High volume of orthopedic cases including total joint replacement and ortho trauma
  • Post cardiac angiogram, post-MI, pre/post cardiac cath, and pre/post cardiac surgery cases are common
  • Titration of insulin drips is a hard-stop required skill

Requirements

  • Active WA state RN license or Compact RN license; pending WA license is also accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience in MS/Tele or stepdown required; candidates without this background in a Level I or II Trauma setting will not be considered
  • At least 1 completed travel contract required; first-time travelers will not be considered
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • BSN preferred
  • Must pass a fill-in-the-blank telemetry/EKG proficiency exam (pass/fail) at orientation
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Proficiency in interpretation and management of cardiac dysrhythmias required
  • Strong orthopedic and neurological nursing skills required
  • Insulin drip titration skills required
  • Trauma Level II experience required; Trauma Level I experience preferred
  • COVID vaccination and booster required
  • 2 supervisory references required for consideration
  • Must disclose any background check hits at time of consideration
  • Prior UW Health System staff must have a minimum 18-month separation before returning as a traveler

Additional Information

  • 500-bed Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma academic teaching hospital
  • Float pool covers a wide range of acute care units including telemetry, orthopedics, neuro-stroke, cardiovascular, and behavioral health — broad clinical adaptability is essential
  • Scrubs in any solid color are acceptable; light blue scrubs are also provided on the unit
  • RTO is not permitted during the first 2 weeks (orientation); after that, RTO should be kept to a minimum and cannot be accommodated outside of pre-approved requests
  • No Christmas RTO; travelers must work 2 of 3 major holidays (eve or day)
  • Block scheduling is not available
  • Local candidates are accepted with no radius restriction
  • Pre-start orientation modules (non-onsite) are estimated at 6-8 hours; an additional 6 hours may be required if WA suicide prevention training is applicable
  • The facility prefers not to place two travelers together (travel pairs)
  • First-time travelers are not eligible for this position
