Description
American Traveler is hiring a NICU RN for a 13-week travel assignment requiring 2 years of NICU experience and pediatric trach/vent skills.
Details
- Work in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of a pediatric hospital
- Patient population includes neonates, infants, and pediatric patients
- Common diagnoses include prematurity, apnea of prematurity (AOP), retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), bronchopulmonary/chronic lung disease (BLD/CLD), cardiac defects, feeding issues, and neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS)
- Utilizes specialized equipment including tracheostomy/ventilators, PICC/central lines, and TPN/lipid administration
- Patient ratio of 1:3, up to 1:4 for lower acuity patient groups
- Schedule includes alternating day and night 3x12-hour shifts (0700-1930 and 1900-0730)
- Every other weekend shift required
- Floating required within specialty or sister units as needed
- No on-call requirements
- Meditech charting system experience preferred
Requirements
- Active RN license (Maryland or Compact) required
- BLS certification required (AHA only)
- CPI certification required (Calm Every Storm online version only accepted)
- ACLS certification preferred (AHA only)
- NRP or AAP certification accepted
- Minimum 2 years of NICU experience required (non-negotiable)
- Pediatric trach/vent experience required
- Teaching hospital, community hospital, and Trauma Level I experience preferred
- Skilled in IV therapy/phlebotomy, central and peripheral line care, and TPN/lipid administration
- Experience with ventilator management, tracheostomy care, and oxygen delivery systems
- Experience with pediatric dosage calculations and emergency medication administration
- Skilled in NG tube insertion/management and various feeding methods (bottle, breast, gavage)
- Knowledge of infection prevention practices and isolation precautions/PPE
Additional Information
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill neonatal and pediatric patients
- Scrubs of any color or print are permitted
- Holiday coverage required as scheduled
- Travelers are expected to float within scope with no restrictions
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Candidates residing less than 50 miles from the facility are not accepted unless otherwise specified
- Returning staff must have been separated from the health system for at least 12 months before returning as a traveler
- Returning travelers must have at least a 6-month break from the system after completing an assignment
- Maximum RTO request of 7 days; requests of more than 4 consecutive days require an additional week added to the contract
