Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position at a Level 1 Trauma Center in Illinois, requiring 2+ years of high-risk OB experience and an IL RN license in hand.

Details

  • Labor & Delivery unit within a Level 1 Trauma Center hospital
  • High-risk antepartum patient population with 200–300 facility births per month
  • Day shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
  • Every other weekend (approximately 2 weekends per month) required
  • Charting in Cerner (experience required)
  • This is a mandatory float facility — clinicians should expect to float regularly across units, including outside their primary specialty, and may float to other facilities within a 50-mile radius; refusal to float may result in assignment cancellation
  • Float notifications may be given as little as 2 hours before a shift
  • No on-call requirements

Requirements

  • Active IL RN license required — no pending licenses accepted
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, AWHONN Intermediate, NIHSS
  • Preferred certification: AWHONN Advanced
  • Minimum 2 years of L&D experience required, with multi-facility L&D or travel nursing experience preferred
  • High-risk (Level 3) OB experience required
  • Heparin drip experience required
  • Cerner EMR experience required
  • Proficiency in: antihypertensives, insulin drips, magnesium sulfate therapy, high-risk delivery support, C-section circulation and recovery, sterile vaginal exams, IUPC placement and calibration, fetal monitoring, and OB triage
  • Skills in IV therapy/phlebotomy, central line maintenance (CVC/PICC), and isolation precautions/PPE required
  • Two professional references from supervisors at the two most recent employers are required for consideration
  • Proof of COVID vaccination required — no exceptions
  • Candidates must have a valid SSN/Social Security Card prior to consideration

Additional Information

  • Responsibilities include managing high-risk antepartum and L&D patients, assisting with high-risk deliveries, circulating and recovering C-sections, and performing OB triage
  • When floated outside primary competency, a team-based care model is implemented to ensure clinical support
  • Returning clinicians are required to complete full recredentialing and repeat orientation, regardless of time since last assignment
  • RTO is capped at 5 days total, with no more than 2 consecutive days off; no RTO on weekends, holidays, or the day before or after a holiday
  • Block scheduling and special scheduling requests are not permitted
  • Pre-assignment modules average approximately 4 hours and must be completed before the start date
  • Local candidates are accepted and preferred; candidates residing within 75 miles of the facility are considered local

I couldn’t have asked for a better experience for my first travel assignment. American Traveler has made the entire process feel easy from start to finish.
