Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Surgical PCU (Progressive Care Unit) travel position at a Level I Trauma Center in Roanoke, VA, with ventilator experience and Epic proficiency required.
Details
- Night shift schedule: 4x12s, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (EOW) or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block
- One holiday required per 13-week contract
- Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5, with a staffing goal of 1:4
- Unit functions as a stepdown from the General Surgical ICU, with bariatric specialty and backup to the trauma unit
- Two dedicated beds for chronic trach patients (non-ICU level)
- Respiratory support equipment in use includes CPAP and BiPAP
- Equipment includes ortho equipment, chest tubes, surgical drains, trach, endo tools, PICC lines, and multi-lumen catheters
- IV drips managed include Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, low-dose dopamine/dobutamine, Amiodarone, Nitro, Bumex, Lasix, Lidocaine, and Ketamine (no titration required)
- Remote telemetry monitoring with monitors remaining on unit; tele sitting implemented to supplement Patient Care Tech coverage
- Floating required within skillset
- Charting via Epic (experience required)
Requirements
- Active Virginia state or compact RN license required; pending license accepted only if candidate holds a single-state license from a non-compact state
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Ventilator care experience required, specifically with chronic trach patients
- Proficiency in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and emergency response
- Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
- Experience with respiratory support modalities including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, CPAP, and BiPAP
- Experience with Rapid Response and Code team activation
- Familiarity with isolation precautions and telemetry settings across PCU, DOU, IMC, and stepdown environments
- Epic EMR experience required
- Two professional references required for consideration
- Copy of driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration
