Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Surgical Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position at a Level I Trauma Center, requiring vent experience and active VA or Compact RN license.

Details

• Night shift, 4x12-hour shifts, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
• Contract length of 26 weeks, with up to 26 weeks available by request
• Surgical PCU that functions as a stepdown from the General Surgical ICU, with bariatric specialty and backup to the trauma unit
• Typical nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5, with a staffing goal of 1:4
• Unit includes 2 beds designated for chronic trach patients (non-ICU level)
• Oxygen support modalities include CPAP and BiPAP
• Equipment used includes ortho equipment, chest tubes, surgical drains, trach, endo tools, PICC lines, and multi-lumen catheters
• IV drips managed include Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, low-dose Dopamine/Dobutamine, Amiodarone, Nitro, Bumex, Lasix, Lidocaine, and Ketamine (no titration required)
• Remote telemetry monitoring with monitors remaining on the unit; tele sitting implemented to supplement Patient Care Tech coverage
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block
• One holiday shift required per 13-week contract period
• Floating required within skillset across PCU, DOU, IMC, and stepdown units
• Epic EMR experience required

Requirements

• Active Virginia state RN license or Compact RN license currently in hand; pending license accepted only if candidate holds a single-state license from a non-compact state
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Ventilator care experience required, specifically with chronic trach patients
• Proficiency in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and emergency response
• Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
• Familiarity with respiratory support modalities including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, CPAP, and BiPAP
• Experience with Rapid Response and Code team activation
• Knowledge of isolation precautions and telemetry in PCU, DOU, IMC, and stepdown settings
• Epic EMR experience required
• Two professional references required for consideration
• Copy of driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration
