Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position requiring a minimum of 2 years of ED experience and the ability to float across multiple regional facilities.

Details

  • Work in a 43-bed Emergency Department at a 337-bed hospital with Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center designations (no trauma designation, not a teaching hospital)
  • ED includes 8 Clinical Decision beds for Behavioral Health (unlocked) and 4 additional beds used for admissions or patient holding
  • General ED patient population including trauma stabilization, respiratory illness, stroke, behavioral health, acute MI, uncontrolled diabetes, and minor trauma; ages range from pediatric to geriatric
  • Average daily census of approximately 145 patients with a 25–30% admission rate
  • RN-to-patient ratio of 1:3–4 based on acuity; CNA support available for patient care assistance
  • 12-hour night shifts starting at 1700, 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • 75% holiday coverage required
  • Floating required across Region 2 facilities including Pineville, Anson, Union, Union West, any Freestanding ED within the region, and the Central Division (CMC Main, CMC Mercy, and Levine Children's Hospital)
  • EMR: Epic (experience required)
  • Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, Philips monitors, Rover Communication, Panda Infant Warmer, and LUCAS device
  • No on-call or call-back requirements

Requirements

  • Active RN license — NC or compact license required
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, and CPI
  • TNCC preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of ED experience required
  • Core ED skills required including cardiac rhythm interpretation, critical care drip management, PIV starts, TNK/TPA administration, and conscious sedation
  • At least 1 professional reference from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN dated within the past year
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • Must have permanent address located more than 50 miles from the facility (local candidates not accepted)
  • Must have been separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year following a permanent position

Additional Information

  • First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
  • Robust departmental support includes a HCT/Unit Secretary (1:8–10 ratio), paramedic, free-floating charge nurse, patient safety attendants, a dedicated ED pharmacist (7a–11p), social worker, RT (24/7), ED physicians and APPs, a geriatric APP, hospitalist (24/7), and intensivist (24/7)
  • Orientation includes facility NEO followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Travel time between facilities when floating mid-shift is compensated
  • Scrubs: navy blue
  • Parking is free on-site
  • Unit culture described as welcoming, helpful, and busy
