Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Stepdown Cardiac position requiring a strong PCU background, ACLS certification, and Epic EMR experience, with night shifts and every-other-weekend availability.

Details

  • Step-down cardiac unit within a hospital setting, with travelers contracted to care for inpatient/CICU-level holds in the ED
  • Patient population includes chest pain, syncope, heart failure, sepsis, overdose, GI bleed, COPD, pneumonia, and overflow medical, surgical, trauma, oncology, and orthopedic patients
  • Cardiac-specific cases include post-cath with stent placement (no CABG), ICD/pacemaker insertions, and cardioversions
  • Titration of cardiac drips required — most common include Lasix, Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitroglycerin, Integrilin, Labetalol, Dopamine, and Dobutamine
  • Patient ratio is 1:4
  • Special equipment in use includes BiPAP, CPAP, Vapotherm, Alaris Pumps, and Philips Monitoring System
  • Charting system: Epic
  • Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
  • Every-other-weekend (EOW) requirement
  • Floating to similar units is expected; travelers will not be assigned patients outside of their clinical scope or team

Requirements

  • Active NH RN license or Compact RN license currently in hand
  • Current certifications required: ACLS and BLS (AHA or Red Cross only); EKG test administered upon arrival
  • CPI certification preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required, with a strong PCU background within the last year
  • ED experience preferred but not required
  • Epic EMR experience required for first-time travelers to be considered
  • Proficiency with BiPAP/CPAP management, high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC), and non-invasive airway management
  • Ability to titrate cardiac and vasoactive drips
  • Skills in telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia management, IV therapy, blood product administration, and peripheral line care
  • Respiratory skills including oxygen administration and interpretation of ABGs preferred

Additional Information

  • First-time travelers with Epic experience and a minimum of 2 years of experience are welcome to apply; first-time travelers with only 1 year of experience will not be considered
  • Former employees of this facility are not eligible for travel roles regardless of time since separation
  • Candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are accepted at a local pay rate
  • Drug screen must be completed within 14 days of the start date
  • Background or license hits require facility approval prior to an offer being extended
  • No RTO approved for Thanksgiving
  • 2 professional supervisor references from within the past 2 years are required; a second reference may be pending at time of consideration
  • Holidays: No RTO will be approved for Thanksgiving

I couldn’t have asked for a better experience for my first travel assignment. American Traveler has made the entire process feel easy from start to finish.
