Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring a minimum of 2 years of RN experience, Epic proficiency, and a valid NC or compact RN license.

Details

  • Work setting is a 30-bed private-room Cardiac Medical Progressive Care Unit (2A) in a community hospital
  • Rooms are remotely monitored by a Centralized Cardiac Monitoring Department (CCMD)
  • Primary patient population includes cardiac diagnoses such as CHF, ACS, arrhythmias, pre/post cardiac catheterization (with and without intervention), rule-out MI, syncope, and pacemaker placement
  • Secondary patient population includes respiratory conditions such as COPD, pneumonia, and BiPAP-dependent patients
  • Standard patient ratio is 1:5; reduced to 1:4 for patients on drips or BiPAP
  • Schedule is 3x12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM–7:30 PM, with weekend rotation and holiday coverage as needed
  • Scheduling is managed on a 6-week self-assisted schedule through Optilink, distributed based on departmental need, patient acuity, skill mix, and previous assignments
  • EMR is Epic; prior Epic experience is required
  • Travelers may be floated to any campus within the health system as needed
  • Nurse Assistants are available 24/7; RN secretary coverage from 7:00 AM–11:00 PM

Requirements

  • Active NC or compact RN license currently in hand
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Cardiac PCU experience required, with comfort managing 1:5 patient ratios
  • Required certifications: BLS and ACLS; NIHSS preferred
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Required skills: interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, telemetry monitoring, pre/post cardiac cath care, peripheral line care and management, PICC line management, management of cardiac and vasoactive drips (with and without titration), procedural sedation administration and monitoring, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), external CPAP/BiPAP management, and tracheostomy care
  • Experience with Rapid Response Teams preferred
  • Previous Charge RN experience preferred
  • Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
  • Two professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required for consideration
  • Current driver's license required
  • No open background check cases permitted

Additional Information

  • All RNs must pass a Pass/Fail compliance EKG exam with up to two attempts allowed; candidates should prepare in advance as study materials are not provided by the facility
  • Orientation includes non-billable unit-based modules averaging 2–4 hours
  • Any requested time off (RTO) must be submitted with the application; no post-submission RTO will be accepted
  • A zero-tolerance policy is in place for tardiness and unexcused absences
  • Third-party education verification is required; degrees from schools on the Florida Diploma Fraud Audit list will not be accepted
