Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an IMC/Stepdown position at a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated acute care hospital in Illinois, requiring telemetry and neuro stepdown experience on night shifts.

• Acute care hospital setting — Level I Trauma Center and Magnet-designated facility with 562 staffed beds
• IMC/Stepdown (PCU/DOU) unit serving a diverse patient population including cardiac, neurological, orthopedic, renal, and post-surgical cases
• Patient ratio of 1:4
• Shift: Nights, 3x12-hour shifts (1845–0715)
• Required to work every other weekend
• Floating required within the hospital or to nearby affiliate facilities
• No on-call responsibilities
• Charting system: Cerner (experience preferred)
• Block scheduling available — discuss with manager

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required — must be in hand at time of consideration (pending licenses not accepted)
• Required certifications: BLS and NIHSS; ACLS preferred — AHA or Red Cross accepted (RQI cards not accepted)
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• Prior travel experience required — first-time travelers will not be considered
• Required work setting experience: Telemetry, Neuro Stepdown, PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown
• Cardiac monitoring skills required: dysrhythmia interpretation and management, on-unit telemetry monitoring, use of Rapid Response/Code teams
• Cardiovascular case experience required: Post Cardiac Angiogram, Post MI, Pre/Post Cardiac Cath, Pre/Post Cardiac Surgery, Sheath Removal, TR Band
• IV therapy and phlebotomy skills required: port access/management, arterial line management, blood product administration, central line care, PICC line management, peripheral line care, phlebotomy, starting IVs
• Respiratory skills required: BiPAP/CPAP management, care of ventilated patients, chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), HFNC, ABG interpretation, tracheostomy management, non-invasive airway management
• Medication experience required: Heparin protocols, cardiac and vasoactive drip management (including titration), PCA, procedural sedation administration
• Neurological case experience required: CVA, craniotomy, pre/post neurosurgery, spinal cord injury, TBI
• Additional case experience required: orthopedic trauma, total joint replacement, peripheral nerve block catheters, feeding tube care, pre/post hemodialysis management, renal failure, skin grafts, surgical drains
• Professional skills required: isolation precautions/PPE, wound care/wound vac
• Teaching hospital experience preferred; Level I Trauma experience preferred
• SSN and DOB required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provides intermediate care nursing to a complex, multi-specialty patient population including cardiac, neurological, orthopedic, renal, post-surgical, and respiratory patients
• Candidates must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
• RTO is ideally no more than 5 days for the assignment; requests exceeding 5 days require facility approval
• Previous permanent or PRN employees of this health system must have been separated for at least 12 months before being eligible to apply as a traveler
• Travel pairs are not accepted at this facility
• Scrub color: any solid color
• Parking permit required at no cost
• Orientation begins with a virtual, at-home day; required modules must be completed by 4:00 PM CST on Day 1
• Local candidates are accepted for this position
