Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position requiring an active AK RN license and AWHONN/NRP certifications for a high-risk Magnet-designated Level II Trauma facility.

Details

  • Work in the Labor & Delivery unit of an acute care hospital
  • High-risk unit with 10 OB Triage rooms, 10 LDR rooms, 3 OR suites, and 4 PACU rooms
  • Facility averages 7 deliveries daily with up to 14 patients during high inductions and antepartum periods
  • OB Triage averages 4-5 third trimester testing patients daily plus additional triage patients
  • 13-week assignment on night shift (3x12 hours, 19:00-7:30)
  • Schedule may flip to days every 4 weeks if coverage of both shifts is needed
  • Required to work every other weekend
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • May float to like units within scope as needed
  • Uses Epic EMR system

Requirements

  • Active AK RN license required, pending license accepted but must be in hand for auto offer
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, AWHONN Intermediate, AWHONN Advanced, and NRP
  • Epic charting experience required
  • Charge nurse experience preferred or willingness to train as charge
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Skills required include IV therapy/phlebotomy, blood product administration, labor and delivery management, fetal monitoring (external and internal), and assisting with vaginal and C-section deliveries
  • Two supervisory references covering 1 year of employment within the last 3 years in a comparable specialty required
  • Copies of certifications required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Provide comprehensive labor and delivery care including antepartum, high-risk antepartum, and postpartum patients
  • Assist with high-risk and vaginal deliveries, circulate and scrub for C-sections, and provide newborn care immediately after delivery
  • Administer medications including antihypertensives, insulin drips, magnesium sulfate, and Pitocin
  • Support pain management including epidural and general anesthesia
  • Care for patients with conditions such as pre-eclampsia, preterm labor, multiple gestation, and VBAC management
  • Facility is a Magnet-designated, Level II Trauma hospital recognized as a USNWR Best Hospital in Alaska
  • Scrubs are provided by the facility
  • Parking is free
  • Must be willing to work 2 of the 3 major holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's
  • First-time travelers are accepted
  • Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be considered; local candidates are not accepted
  • Former permanent Providence staff must be separated for a minimum of 3 months before returning as a traveler
  • Travelers can work a maximum of 1 calendar year at this facility before requiring a 6-month break prior to returning
  • Only Hepatitis B vaccination is accepted for compliance; titers or declinations are not accepted
  • RTO must be submitted and approved individually at time of offer
