Description
American Traveler is hiring a Labor and Delivery RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring an active AK RN license and at least 1 year of L&D experience.
Details
- High-risk Labor and Delivery unit within an acute care hospital
- Unit includes 10 OB Triage rooms, 10 LDR rooms, 3 OR suites, and 4 PACU rooms
- Average of 7 deliveries daily with up to 14 patients including inductions and high-risk antepartum cases
- OB Triage averages 4-5 third trimester testing patients daily plus additional triage patients
- Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours (19:00-07:30)
- Schedule may flip to include day shifts every 4 weeks if needed to cover both nights and days
- Every other weekend required
- No on-call requirements
- May float to like units within scope as needed
- Uses Epic charting system
- Scrubs provided by facility
Requirements
- Active AK RN license required in hand
- Minimum 1 year of Labor and Delivery experience required
- Current BLS, ACLS, NRP required
- AWHONN Intermediate and Advanced certifications required
- Epic charting experience required
- Charge nurse experience preferred or willingness to train as charge
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Skills required include IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and use of infusion pumps
- Experience with labor and delivery management including assisting with high-risk and vaginal deliveries, and circulating/scrubbing for C-sections
- Experience with antepartum, high-risk antepartum, and postpartum care
- Experience with fetal monitoring including external and internal fetal monitoring and IUPC placement
- Experience with medication administration including Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate, and antihypertensives
- Neonatal care experience including APGAR scoring and neonatal resuscitation
- Two supervisory references required covering 1 year of employment within the last 3 years in a comparable specialty
Additional Information
- Provide comprehensive nursing care across antepartum, labor and delivery, and postpartum patients in a high-risk unit
- Facility is a Magnet-designated, Level II Trauma hospital recognized as a USNWR Best Hospital in Alaska
- Assist with high-risk deliveries, C-section procedures, and neonatal care in the delivery room
- Support postpartum patients with conditions such as postpartum hemorrhage, pregnancy-induced hypertension, and multiple births
- Provide newborn care including assessments, thermoregulation, and discharge teaching to parents
- Must be willing to work 2 of the 3 major holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
- Local candidates are not accepted for this assignment
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Requested time off must be submitted at the time of application and is approved individually upon offer
- Former Providence permanent staff must have a minimum 3-month separation before returning as a traveler
- Travelers are limited to a maximum of 1 calendar year in this assignment before requiring a 6-month break to return to the same facility
- Only Hepatitis B vaccination is accepted for compliance; titers or declinations are not accepted
- Housing options in the area may be limited
