Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a night shift travel assignment requiring Epic proficiency, ACLS/BLS certification, and the ability to manage a complex adult-to-geriatric critical care patient population.
Details
- Medical Surgical ICU setting serving an adult to geriatric patient population
- Common diagnoses include sepsis/septic shock, respiratory failure, post-cardiac arrest, GI bleed/hemorrhagic shock, DKA, acute kidney injury, pulmonary embolism, hypertensive emergencies, cardiac arrhythmias, and multisystem organ dysfunction
- Procedures include CRRT, targeted temperature management (TTM), chest tube care, bronchoscopies, lumbar punctures, central line and arterial line insertion assistance and maintenance, peritoneal dialysis, and continuous bladder irrigation
- Continuous IV infusions including pressors, paralytics, sedatives, and cardiac drips are routinely managed
- Patient ratio of 1:2–3 in a 15-bed unit with an average daily census of 12
- EMR: Epic (required); also uses Pyxis and SBAR communication framework
- Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 19:00–07:00
- Every other weekend required
- Floating within the facility and scope of practice as needed
- No on-call requirements
- 12-week contract
Requirements
- Active RN license — GA or Compact license required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 1 year of ICU experience required
- Epic EMR experience required
- Proficiency with arterial line management, central line care, PICC line management, and IV therapy
- Experience with ventilator management, BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC), and interpretation of ABGs
- Experience titrating vasoactive and cardiac drips, managing continuous IV sedation, and administering blood products
- Ability to interpret and manage cardiac dysrhythmias
- Experience managing patients with multisystem organ dysfunction/failure
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Previous charge experience is preferred
- Scrub color: Navy Blue
- RTO maximum is 7 days per contract; all RTO must be finalized prior to acceptance and no RTO or schedule changes will be permitted after offer
- RTO is not permitted during the first week of the assignment
- Spring Break (April 4–12) is a blackout period for RTO
- Holiday coverage is required: if 1–2 major holidays fall within the assignment period, the traveler is expected to work all of them; if 3 major holidays fall within the assignment, the traveler is expected to work 2 (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, and New Year's Eve/Day)
- Local candidates are accepted at the same rate
- Any candidate who has worked at or applied to a Piedmont facility as a permanent employee, per diem, or FCSS must have been away from all Piedmont facilities for at least 1 full year before being considered as a traveler
- Travelers who were previously unable to return to a Piedmont facility must complete one successful assignment outside of Piedmont before applying to a new Piedmont location
- No alternate shift or schedule requests are permitted — the posted night shift schedule is firm
- Two supervisory references (manager level or above) are highly preferred; charge nurse references are not accepted
