Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Emergency Department RN for a night shift travel contract requiring an active MD or Compact RN license and a broad range of emergency care skills across all age groups.

Details

  • Work setting is a community hospital Emergency Department serving all age ranges from infant to geriatric
  • Fast-paced ED environment with complex and varied diagnoses including psychiatric, respiratory, neurological, trauma, and multisystem cases
  • 47-bed ED with an average daily census of 130
  • Patient ratio of 1:4
  • Shift: Nights, 3x12 hours (19:00–07:30) with a 36/48-hour weekly option
  • Every other weekend is required
  • Holiday coverage is required as scheduled
  • Floating within the ED specialty is required; travelers are given first float priority
  • No pre-scheduled on-call requirements
  • Epic EMR preferred

Requirements

  • Active MD or Compact RN license required
  • Required certifications: BLS (AHA only), ACLS (AHA only), PALS (AHA only), NIHSS, and CPI (Calm Every Storm online version accepted)
  • Minimum 2 years of ED experience required; candidates with 1+ year of strong ED experience may be considered
  • Community hospital experience required
  • Proficiency in core ED skills including triage, IV therapy/phlebotomy, blood product administration, central line care, cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, 12-lead EKG/ECG, BiPAP/CPAP management, care of ventilated patients, ABG interpretation, procedural sedation, emergency medications, and IV vasopressors
  • Experience managing psychiatric patients including acute psychosis, drug overdose, suicidal patients, and violent behavior
  • Experience with CVA and neurological emergencies
  • Pediatric ED experience is preferred

Additional Information

  • First-time travelers with strong ED skills and experience will be considered
  • Candidates must reside 50+ miles from the facility (permanent address) to be eligible; locals within 50 miles are not accepted unless explicitly stated otherwise
  • Maximum of 7 days of time off (RTO) may be requested; requests for more than 4 consecutive days require an additional week added to the end of the contract
  • Former employees of the health system must have been separated for at least 12 months before returning as a traveler
  • Return travelers must have been away from the system for at least 6 months after completing a prior assignment before returning
  • Most units allow one major holiday off during the winter season
  • Candidates must be comfortable floating within scope with no restrictions
  • Schedule restrictions cannot be requested or guaranteed
  • Onboarding labs must be completed within 72 hours of contract signing
