Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Oncology Telemetry position requiring 2 years of current acute care experience in the specialty and telemetry interpretation skills.
Details
- Work on a Medical/Surgical Oncology Telemetry unit within a cancer hospital setting
- Care for adult and geriatric patients with all subtypes of solid tumor cancers, including breast, lung, prostate, pancreatic, colon, and esophageal cancer
- Patients receiving antineoplastic chemotherapy and care spanning new diagnosis through treatment and end-of-life transition
- Staffing ratio goal of 1:4, potentially up to 1:5
- Weekend shifts vary based on unit needs with no set or blocked scheduling
- Floating required to other Med/Surg Oncology units
- 12-hour Day shifts (7:00-19:30) and Night shifts (19:00-7:30) available
- Uses Epic for computerized charting
- Strong focus on infection prevention protocols and fall prevention
Requirements
- Active RN license (Ohio or Compact) required in hand at time of consideration
- BLS certification required
- ONS Chemo certification preferred
- Minimum 2 years of current acute care experience required, consistently within the last 12 months and specific to the specialty
- Epic charting experience required
- Skills required: telemetry interpretation and monitoring, IV therapy/phlebotomy, accessing and managing ports, starting and maintaining IVs, central line blood draws, administration of chemotherapy, cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation/management, isolation precautions/PPE
- Preferred skills: blood product administration, tracheostomy care/management
- Oncology experience preferred but not required
- Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
- 2 professional references required, with at least 1 from a Manager/Director or formal leadership role; Charge RN acceptable as second reference; no coworker references accepted
Additional Information
- Provide comprehensive med/surg oncology nursing care across the full spectrum of the cancer journey, from new diagnosis through treatment and end-of-life transition
- Candidates should come with a willingness to learn and grow their nursing practice
- Previous travel experience preferred, though first-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Locals accepted at the same rate
- Former employees eligible for a travel assignment once away from the facility for 6 months or more
- Current employees are ineligible to be hired as a traveler at this health system
- RTO must be submitted with the initial application and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
- Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting promptly after signing the contract due to strict compliance timelines

Cons
Scheduled every weekend, floated for the first 6 weeks of contract every shift. Not traveler friendly even though they say they are. Staff are treated well not travelers.
