Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Labor & Delivery position at a large Level I Trauma Center and academic medical center, requiring a minimum of 2 years of L&D experience and a CT or compact RN license.
Details
- Labor & Delivery unit in a large, short-term acute care academic medical center and Level I Trauma Center with 1,500+ staffed beds
- Facility volume of 200–300 births per month
- Patient ratio of 1:2
- Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- Every other weekend required
- On-call required: two 4-hour blocks per 6-week schedule
- Epic EMR (experience preferred)
- Scrubs are provided by the facility
- No floating outside of scope
- Block scheduling accommodated
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active CT or compact RN license required prior to start date (CT license takes 15–21 business days to issue; candidates must apply before being considered)
- Current BLS certification required; ACLS and NRP required; AWHONN Fetal Monitoring Beginner preferred
- Minimum 2 years of L&D experience required (candidates with 1.5 years may be considered with Level I trauma or travel experience)
- Experience at a large trauma center setting required
- Academic/teaching hospital experience preferred
- Level I Trauma Center experience preferred
- Proficiency in full-scope L&D skills including vaginal and C-section delivery support, fetal monitoring, hemorrhage management, neonatal resuscitation, and postpartum care
- Experience with magnesium sulfate therapy, Pitocin, antihypertensives, and other L&D medications required
- External and internal fetal monitoring experience required, including IUPC placement and calibration
- 1 professional reference required for consideration
- Flu vaccination required; declinations not accepted
- COVID vaccination required (religious/medical exemptions considered)
- Candidates must not have any disciplinary actions on their nursing license
Additional Information
- Responsibilities span the full continuum of L&D care including antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum management, as well as neonatal care in the delivery room
- Surgical case support includes circulating and scrubbing for C-sections, cervical cerclage, D&C, and tubal ligation (some preferred)
- Couplet care and high-risk antepartum experience are preferred
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Candidates must live more than 75 miles from the facility to be eligible; local candidates are not accepted
- Former permanent staff must have been separated from the facility for at least 2 years to be eligible as a traveler
- RTO of 7 days or fewer can be approved; requests exceeding 7 days require additional facility approval
- Travelers are expected to participate in natural disaster or emergency response activities as needed
- Monthly parking cost is approximately $125

Always given very easy assignments. Their MICU is combined with the MICU stepdown so travelers were put in stepdown once a week but it’s a 1:3 ratio there and assignments were fair
