Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for an Oncology unit position requiring ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Certification and prior inpatient hematology/oncology experience.

Details

• Inpatient Oncology unit specializing in Acute Leukemia and Hematology
• Primarily cares for adult and geriatric patients, with a focus on newly diagnosed acute leukemia cases
• High volume of blood product administration, IV antibiotics, and electrolyte management
• Target staffing ratio of 1:4, potentially up to 1:5
• Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (7:00 PM-7:30 AM)
• Contract may include a rotating D/N schedule based on department needs, with shift assignments reviewed every 4-week period
• Variable weekend requirements based on unit needs
• No set/blocked scheduling; self-scheduling requests accepted before finalization
• Orientation includes one week of dayshift Mon-Fri followed by 36 hours of on-unit preceptorship
• Uses Epic for computerized charting

Requirements

• Active OH or compact RN license required in hand at time of submission
• Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Certification
• NIHSS certification preferred
• Minimum 2 years of overall RN experience required
• At least 1 year of inpatient hematology/oncology experience required
• Acute care experience must be current and within the applying specialty, with consistent work history in the last 12 months
• Prior travel nursing experience from an inpatient unit required
• Epic charting experience required
• Skills required: IV therapy/infusions, blood product administration, central line and PICC line care, port access/management, starting and maintaining IVs, chemotherapy administration and monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, and recognition of oncologic emergencies (ATLS, sepsis)
• Experience caring for patients with leukemia/blood dyscrasias and lymphoma required; multiple myeloma experience preferred
• Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program
• Two professional references required, with at least one from a manager/director or supervisor and the second from a charge RN or higher; coworker references not accepted

Additional Information

• Strong emphasis on infection prevention protocols and patient falls prevention
• Provide comprehensive care to oncology patients including chemotherapy administration, blood product transfusions, and monitoring for treatment-related complications
• Utilize Rapid Response Teams as needed for patient deterioration
• First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
• Former employees are eligible for a travel assignment after being away from the facility for 6 months or more
• Current employees of the health system are ineligible for travel assignments at any of its Ohio hospital locations
• Local candidates are accepted at the same rate
• RTO must be submitted and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
• Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting requirements promptly after signing the contract to meet compliance deadlines
