Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position at a Level 1 Trauma Center, requiring telemetry experience and an active NE or Compact RN license.

Details

  • Work in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU), 4th Floor East Wing, of an acute care Level 1 Trauma Center
  • 55-bed PCU serving primarily adult patients; pediatric patients (age 15+) are seen rarely
  • RN-to-patient ratio of 1:4 on both day and night shifts
  • Common diagnoses include CVA, TIA, shortness of breath, COVID, subdural hematoma, and general weakness
  • Common medications and drips include PCA pumps for pain management, Cardizem, and insulin
  • Charting performed in Epic; experience required
  • IV pumps used: Alaris
  • 12-hour night shifts (1830–0630)
  • Every other weekend required
  • Floating required, primarily to med/surg areas based on highest unit need

Requirements

  • Active NE state or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Active certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS — pending certifications not accepted
  • Telemetry experience required
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years — must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Valid driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Candidates must permanently reside at least 50 miles from the facility; driver's license is used to verify permanent address
  • Candidates who are currently or were recently (within the past year) employed full time, part time, or PRN directly by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility (including CHI and/or Dignity) are not eligible — candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
  • RNs must pass an open-book skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90%; failure to pass will result to contract termination
  • Unit is supported by nursing assistants, a charge nurse, an educator, care managers, social workers, dieticians, PT, and OT
  • Mechanical lifts are available in every other room
  • Navy blue scrubs required for RNs
  • Artificial nails are strictly prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply will result in contract termination
  • Candidates are expected to be adaptable, organized, and collaborative — success on this unit comes from strong time management and a team-oriented approach
